Tracks located high above the ground - driving line?

How does the process of laying down the driving line work for tracks that are way up in the sky? Do you still place the spline points along the landmass below?

I imagine it will be a real pain in the butt to keep adding obstacles and solids high in the air without seeing your driving line.

The way I did it on my Skyhopper track was that after picking my spot I put down only the start and finish points. Then I created the first island in the air and started adding DL points there after moving the start up high. Wasn't too much of a hassle

Which leads me to another question. I never figured out the input / shortcut for adding new spline points to the driving line once you've placed the start and finish. I did my track adding all points at the start, holding Shift along the way.

As far as I recall I think it was as simple as cloning an object. Hold Ctrl and drag away

You'll still be able to see the driving line. It will appear over any objects you place in the sky.
