Saw this and had to share. This is just too funny.
What happens when pirates play a game development simulator and then go bankrupt because of piracy?
Gamers need to learn that they need to support the game industry or it will die. I will never buy a used game and I will never complain about online passes. Developers need to get support for all the hard work they put in. End of story.
Well next gen this might happen for everyone. Personally, they should switch to all digital games, then give sales on there currently like XBL does once in awhile. I wouldn't mind, as long as I could dl for local play incase online goes down or something.Originally Posted by Stego111
********. You cannot pirate on consoles (at least not easily at all), so people have to put up with online passes and the like on consoles just because there are some *******s out there? There have always been pirates, though the numbers have risen in recent years. The reason for the rise? DRM itself, along with other reasons like demos hardly being released anymore, crappy console ports and the majority of games just being plain bad. Not sure I can hold it against the bastards (pirates), though they must have high end PC's to play the new games so they must have money.Originally Posted by Stego111
But these guys are usually honest about it, they often use the cracked versions as "demos", and if they deem the product worthy, then they'll buy it.
Who's to say the majority wont buy Dev Tycoon it it actually is a worthy product, and not just another sausage rushed off the assembly line?
Sure, pirating needs to go, but so does terrible business models and the ratio of good to bad games needs to be restored also.
Anyway, the last thing it should effect is console gamers. You want to eat the ******** up you go ahead, nearly everybody else does. And no, the industry will never die. You mad bro?
Online passes are not there to deter piracy. They are in place to insure that some money can bypass the retailer of the game, and go straight to the developer. I was making a statement based on the industry as a whole. NOT about Game Dev Tycoon at all.Originally Posted by apdenton1
If people stop buying games, there will be no games made. Either that, or every game will be some sort of freeware, and then we will have no 'AAA' titles. That should be pretty easy to understand.
Whoops, yeah, sorry.Originally Posted by Stego111
Got kinda carried away on the piracy topic and forgot to address the retail part properly/got mixed up.
You didn't mention Dev Tycoon, but that is the topic of this thread and I was just having my say. Should have structured my post better![]()
Doesn't mean online passes are justified though.
Oh, of course. That will NEVER happen though. Pirates are the minority, as are second hand gamers. If people stop buying games, there will be no games made. Either that, or every game will be some sort of freeware, and then we will have no 'AAA' titles. That should be pretty easy to understand.
Developers (as a majority) have bought the rise in piracy on themselves. By issuing online passes, day-one DLC, locked content people can no longer be bothered paying for a game and then being charged twice over just to get the full contents of the disc they bought.
Although I don't pirate games myself I can see why so many are now only buying games they feel deserve it, you know the ones without all the locked content and aren't clearly pushed out of development four months early just to hit a deadline!![]()

It really depends man. The only company I know of today that is big and still takes pride in their games, is rockstar/ rockstar north.... Straight up, redlynx didn't deserve at least half of the money I spent on evo GOLD, IDGAF if they fixed it like a month later. I didn't buy a broken game, and I'm not talking about replay crashing, i'm talking about 5 FPS. Also another thing is. How many games really deserves our money? What about COD who has developers that just don't care anymore? I think it's important to support up and coming game developers and developers that still care. But why would I support example a company like EA, that doesn't care at all, and they are wiping their a#" on 100 dollar bills?
FromSoftware, Obsidian, CDProjeckt, Irrational....although Irrational clearly don't care about gameplay, still seems like they take pride in their work. Redlynx maybe? Gold edition was outsourced after all. Yeah some **** hasn't been fixed on xbox either but if my source is correct it costs roughly $40,000 per release of a patch, not including dev costs. Considering evo is a 1200msp game I think they have done enough, better than most of the more dominant companies.Originally Posted by cristan10
Anyway, there are plenty more passionate studios out there, but the little guys/medium guys often get drowned out by the aggressively marketed trash "AAA".
Yes indeed. The problem is most people just don't understand or care. They buy the so called "AAA" games (very misleading label; big budget but low quality in most cases) because their friends are and "OMG Co-Op", because it's on the store shelf, because it's a gift for family member, aggressive marketing and shiny graphics drew their attention etc etc. "core" gamers for lack of a better word are in the minority now, the casuals and ill-informed are the target demographic. Also another thing is. As far as I'm concerned you're all ill-informed. Go play System Shock 2, Deus Ex and others in the LGS lineage![]()
How do I end up wasting my time on these completely pointless rants. I really ought to stop looking in the off-topic sub forum.![]()
