A two part question about lighting

Okay, here is my situ. I am attempting to build a cave on a section of my new track. I used the flat cliff about 25 times to cast shadows over the driving line in that area to make it dark. When ever I restart under testing from farther back than the checkpoint just outside my "cave", some of the shadows disappear.
Question, A;Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening?
B;Is it possible to change the environment settings from day to night & back again dynamically? I know of one RedLynx level where it gets dark near the finish. (Can't remember the name of the track.) It would be better to do that, since then I could delete all the cliffs hanging overhead & save a bit of complexity.
Thanx in advance for any input anyone has!

use the Area Condition, set it to night then place/size it to the location you want it to be dark, then turn the fade value to 0

Okay, so how do you activate the area condition? I tried triggering it with an area trigger, and also linking said trigger through an effect event. Also tried just placing it thinking that once I hit the size bubble it would work, but nothing worked.
Had the fade set to zero, and also when that didn't work I set the intensity to zero as well.
I've only made 2 tracks so far, (workin #3) and I am just starting to mess with triggers + obj physics & such so any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanx again!
And remember, be nice 2 da noobs. Everyone was a noob at everything once!!!

hmm thats odd, it should be drop and work when the rider hits the bubble..
    let me check it out

edit: my bad, along with fade at 0, open the area condition properties and go into Area Condition Settings>Sun Settings> and set the Sun Intensity to 0

I would do this with an object position event and let it follow the rider. Then you can use trigger to turn on a linear card (can't remember what it's called) to decrease the sun intensity over time. This will be more realistic imo then just hitting the bubble and get instant darkness.

That's how I used to do it but its not needed. You can change the reacting object to anything you want, then just use data sources to change the weather parameters however you like.

There's a google doc for this also. See signature for links.

Re: A two part question about lighting

    Yo!
Thanx again for the input guys.

to dasraiser; I will try that when I have time to build again. Also I will tool around some more with the bubble dimensions in a different area on my track.

to basslineux; I need it to be a fast change as the rider enters and nears the exit of the cave. I already have the entrance & exit mapped out and covered, I just want the light killed through the middle section so I can drop all the extra cliffs overhead that give the shadows.

to JB; I'll be reading up more on those toots for some other ideas I am throwin around.

And BTW, has anyone checked out my first two tracks? I just learned from a skilled player that I under rated them both. If you are up for a long ride try Ktulu Calls! or Whiplash Mountain. Hard & medium skill levels respectively.

Yet again lemme just say, thanx all! C U in the mines! (Oh wait, that's a Descent reference!) A bike can never fly like a PyroGX, but when I am a better builder I will pay homage to the greatest game ever... DESCENT!!!
