No one Expects the Competition!
As we all know, the Track Central isn't exactly filled with great tracks left and right. So, in an attempt to remedy this, I will be hosting a few rounds (or as many as my budget allows me to) of build-offs. The idea is to have a different theme, which I'll announce here for each round (with the time limits), that everyone is welcome to have a shot at trying to create.
This is a PC-only competition. To sign up, post your ingame-name here.
General rules of all rounds:
1.In order to participate, you must sign up before the announced start date of the competition.
2.Tracks eligible for entry are, unless mentioned otherwise for the round, custom trials tracks. No skill games or supercross.
3.Tracks may be of easy, extreme difficulty or anything in between. No ninjas.
4.Track length is to be set to no less than 25 seconds platinum. No limit for longer tracks.
5. No teams, this is a single effort.
6. Don't copy-pasta or re-release your old tracks. It has to be new and uploaded within the given time-constraints.
7.Stay within the announced theme or your track won't qualify.
8. Once you enter your track, you've committed. No changing the track.
9. One entry / person.
10. Each round will revolve around a theme. The theme, along with the round-rule, will be announced when the round starts!
More on the rules as I think this through. Take note though that each round might introduce special conditions for the track that must be met in order to qualify!
Judging:
Entries will be scored by theme loyalty, general aesthetics, the driving line and execution of round-rules.
Volunteer judges welcome. PM me if you're interested in this role.
Prizes:
To the winner go the spoils, only the creator grabbing first place goes home with the swag (this is mainly because I'm not a wealthy person). Prizes may vary for each round or they might not, I haven't set this into stone yet but they will have some monetary value in one way or another. Currently, do not expect value of greater than 20 - 30 euros. More on this later.
Round 1: Up to 30 € worth of steam games. You pick 'em, I pay 'em. Sadly, I can not get a hold of steam gift cards so this is the way for now.
Round 2: Up to 20 € worth of steam games. You pick 'em, I pay 'em.
Round 3: Up to 20 € worth of steam games. You pick 'em, I pay 'em.
Round 1: CLOSED

The hardest round to judge by far! Awesome tracks from amazing people. There can only be one winner though so check out this video (YouTube comments disabled to avoid spoilers).
Well Interesting initiative! I was waiting for some compititions, hoping they will generate some cool tracks.
Count me in.

Welcome aboard! Let's get some more people on this, guys. Make this work![]()
Sounds nice.
Question time, though: How do you enforce this:
6. Don't copy-pasta or re-release your old tracks. It has to be created and uploaded within the given time-constraints.
?
In case the theme allows for it: if I take one of the two somewhat halfway-ish finished tracks I have and take this competition as the incentive
to not agonize over their freaking tiny details that nobody will notice anyways (...) and just make and finish them already,
how can you tell? And if you can't, does it really matter?
Suggestion time: Not caring about an actual prize-prizethink it's awesome that you do), but if you want to actually hand out one that has monetary value,
I suggest a selectable gift through steam or amazon or something like that.
anyways, a month is plenty of time, so.. ingame-name: das_n3rvt
wow that's pretty neat and surprising.
but here are some suggestions:
more then one theme.
i think a 10€ steam gift card is more then ok as incentive.
Difficulty restrictions like easy-medium // hard-extreme, because im seeing some problems judging an easy track against an extreme one.
why the 15 ? can't it start sooner? ^^
but im gonna give it a try but im rly bad regarding deadlines

The rule was badly worded. What I meant was that it has to be something you haven't uploaded before and not a re-release. Also, having the theme announced at the start and there being a round-rule (which will involve building) should make every participant spend some time in the editor. That and the fact that I will check for re-releases is about all the enforcing that I think should be needed.Originally Posted by Karmacoma
This is actually what I currently have in mind. I'm just not sure if I'm gonna go for a gift card (after I find out how to make that happen) or set an amount of money people can spend on steam out of my pocket (kind of a "You pick 'em, I pay 'em"-deal).Originally Posted by Karmacoma
Assuming people get into this competition and my budget can withstand it, there will be other themes in following rounds. Finding out who executed the theme of their track the best is easier when they're all doing the same themeOriginally Posted by Kesmolato
No problem, really, since all difficulties share a common factor: the driving line. It's easy to see who had the best flow to their track regardless of difficulty.Originally Posted by Kesmolato
That's mainly because I don't have a lot of free time on my hands atm, at least not as much as I think is required to focus on this once we get rolling. I'll be a much happier panda by the 15th with all of the stuff I'm dealing with now behind me. I also believe there are some competitions running at the moment on the box so this should give the guys with both Evo and Gold a chance to get those out of the way.Originally Posted by Kesmolato
As much as I appreciate our three contestants for taking part, more are needed! Any volunteers for the judging panel are also appreciated. Naturally you can't be part of both the contest and the judges![]()
Count me in. Is it ok if my track is ninja level 10?![]()
It might be hard to judge when no one could even get past the starting line. So noOriginally Posted by ConfusedMuscles![]()
Haha figured. I build easy all the way up to ninja level 2 so I will be sure to keep the difficulty at extreme or lower.
