One of the rumours doing the rounds (thats been thrown around for a long time actually) is that there will be two main skus. One is a set-top box akin to Apple's Apple TV and has no blu-ray drive and requires a network connection of some form to function and another that is a more traditional style console/set-top box like we have now. Guess we'll find out come may, but that would make sense.
I have no loyalty to any major corporation, if any vendor enforces features that turn my console hardware and software into a long term rental, I will gladly not buy their products.
Take it with a grain of salt as we have yet to see the full reveal, but this is not looking too good so far.
^^ If that is true, I will give M$ my big middle finger and go to Playstation.
1. Kinect
2. Gold required for basic things, even netflix?
3. Adds splattered across homepage
4. Lack of exclusives
5 I dont like shooters
6. Focus on apps and tv crap
7. Never good sales or freebies like PS+
These are the things I hate about the current xbox. The next box seems to be going even further than what I want in a videogame system. 2 year subscription? More kinect? Always online? Windows 8? Raise in price for gold? If the next gen trials is microsoft exclusive, I will not play it. It will tear my heart out...
And yes, I know I know.. just rumors. I have been impressed by sony and jaded by microsoft for a few years now.
I believe that Microsoft started these rumors themselves to see how people would react. I can't fathom Microsoft being so stupid as to actually follow through with a lot of the $#&! that has been said so far. Pray the reveal says the rumors are all false, and RedLynx makes a retail Trials upon the new box's release![]()
Putting all the rumors aside, I'll still root for the PS4. It just seems like the more powerful machine and, if things go as it did for this generation, most of the games I like (loads of rpgs and whatnot) are gonna be on that system anyway. And then there's the fact that it's the first time a console developer sat down with game developers and went "Ok, what do you need for this device to be capable of?". Seems fairly important to me.
Greetings,
Last year my phone line was dug up, there was some building work going on near me and some idiot thought it would be a good idea to just "dig a hole" for some drainage pipes without checking if there was existing services there.
The result phone and therefore internet was off for 6 weeks while the cable was repaired, and repaired and repaired oh! and did I mention the cable being repaired. Think there's a over use of the "repaired" word in that sentence? Well it had to be repaired 6 times in as many weeks for various reasons which I won't go into as thinking about it still raises my blood pressure to dangerous levels.
So unless EVERY ISP on the planet can say they have 100% up time, requiring an always on connection could be really bad for business. But MS know best don't they.
1. Agreed. Kinect is a total waste.Originally Posted by jook13

3. Agreed. Why pay $60 a year just to get bombarded with ads on every home screen page?
4. Gears of War and Halo are both series of games that I love (well, not Halo 4) and are exclusive but different people have different tastes.
5. I love me a good shooter lol
6. Agreed. Although this doesn't bother me unless it takes away the capabilities of games.
7. Agreed.
YES! Let's all flock to PS3/4 and/or PC. Gaming may be able to get back on the right track that way.
I'll probably stick with just PC games for the next year or two, then eventually get a Wii U and maybe a PS4 if they have enough exclusives that I want to play.
I can't even remember the last 360 exclusive that I wanted to buy; maybe Alan Wake, Evo, and Fez (oh wait, those all have PC versions now). However, I can think of at least a dozen PS3 exclusives that I wanted to play.
Judging by the way Microsoft tried to get a slice of "Apple Pie" with their locked down WinRT tablets, I'm expecting them to similarly attempt to take over the "moms and kids" demographic from Nintendo with a big push for "Everything Kinect!!!" Honestly, they'd be crazy not to, with the way the Wii U has been slacking. Microsoft is poised to make themselves the next king of the casual market. That's the main reason why I'm not getting my hopes up for their new console.
