Will Evo/HD/Gold ever be released on Linux?

Haven't been around in the forums much lately as Ive been playing around with Linux Mint 14 quite a bit (Windows is rapidly becoming history for me)

Anyway, the gaming on Linux has greatly improved since i last used it with games like TF2, Nexuiz http://www.penguspy.com/nexuiz/ , 0 A.D(AOE but better & free n open source http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Yo5F20Ekz7...buntugame.jpeg) Heroes of Newerth (LOL on linux n better) http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wDEGr6Gpbu...elinuxgame.jpg , available now & Left for dead 2 & DOTA2 coming soon. Also it seems that a few H/W manufacturers are starting to take Linux seriously for gaming - Alienware X51 deploying with Ubuntu http://alienware.com/ubuntu/

In fact the gaming list is bigger than most peeps would expect if they haven't used Linux for a while > http://www.penguspy.com/#/All/free_a...view=1/limit=0

Since Gold was a port to Windows and its obvious that Linux can handle high graphical games, its begs the question ... Will they be making a version available for Linux Via steam?

This is not an official answer, but I personally think it won't be. The main reason for this is DirectX, or actually the lack of it. Changing the game engine to use OpenGL would require lots of work. Testing would also be expensive as pretty much every distribution would have to be tested and on different hardware.

Even though Linux gaming has taken big leaps in the last ten years, it still comes nowhere close to running all the games that run on Windows. Sure, you can use Wine, but it still has many things that haven't been implemented yet. Some years ago it was so unstable that I had to have a virtual machine with Windows in order to run some applications properly, which is a waste of resources.

Maybe you could spend the money you saved by not testing the Windows version of TE:GE (or even attempting to get it to work on Windows, at that) on getting it to work on Linux? :3

    What a great idea!
Do you have a solution for the DirectX issue, too?

@OP: Your best bet is to create a partition purposefully for this game.. I've had to do this with plenty of Dx dependant titles. Am happy to do so considering the growing popularity of Linux gaming.
