Yeah, i'm kinda leaning more towards the HD PVR 2 at the moment, but there's one thing abou the the AverMedia ones, that would be really great for me, they allow you to record without a computer next to you.Originally Posted by Tooker
And the reason why that would be really useful to me, is because my PC, and my Xbox, are not in the same room.
I mean, i could get the PC into my gaming room, but, it would be a real hassle...
So, right now, i know the HD PVR 2 is probably better in terms of quality, but that is one big feature for me.
I don' know, do i go the lazy way, and get the AverMedia, or do i get off my lazy *** and get the HD PVR 2?
Do you have a laptop? You could just record on that then throw the movies on a thumb drive and transfer over to your PC.
Yeah, now that's a funny story...Originally Posted by vladiiiiiiii
You see, i had a laptop, untill the day it decided it wasn't gonna work anymore, so i bought a Netbook (Small Laptop), and one day, my clumsy girlfriend dropped it and broke it, so...
I thought about replacing it, and now i realize that i probably should had, but, i guess i just learned to live without one, lol.
But now, i'm gonna have to buy a Capture Card (it's not really a card, can't i just call it a Box?), and a good enough Mic (i do have a mic, but it's pretty old), so, this isn't really the best time to get a new Laptop.
But really, i don't get it, most ppl have their consoles in their living rooms, where they watch TV and movies (right?), unless you live with someone else (Parents / Roommates/ Girlfriend who doesn't like video games), and i think most ppl have their desk, with the big tower PC in their Bedrooms (right?). I mean, i think most ppl don't have an Office room, so...
I don't get it, how was AverMedia, the only company who thought, "ok, maybe we should do something about the fact that, our clients might not have a PC next to their consoles..."
That seems like a pretty important thing to me...
Ive heard the Roxio one is pretty good but too damn expensive...
ElGato Game Capture HD is what I use for NRLP. It's got a rewind feature so you can go back a bit (1 hr with my current storage) in case I forget to hit record.
It also has Twitch.TV streaming built in, and works great with Xsplit. It will do 720@60 or 1080@30, so it's got a bit of a range. It encodes OTF to h.264, so it loses a bit of definition, but you don't have to worry about mt2s conversion.
It captures through HDMI, and even comes with it's own cable. All you need to do is plug the USB cable into your PC/Laptop and run the software. It's going for about $170, and you don't have to worry about analog-HD recording through composite cables.
The Hauppauge PVR 2 Gaming Edition records at 30fps through HDMI, so you lose 30fps.
Don't let Jarr3tt88 sucker you into getting an old 1212. Those are component only, go HDMI and leave the analog behind.
Most people who record a lot actually have a console setup near a PC as it makes it much easier to record. Without a PC nearby you won't be able to check your levels and audio latency.Originally Posted by BPRJCTX
If you really want to get into making videos off of your console, you'll want to make sure you do your homework and do a lot of testing, otherwise you won't have the best experience. If you just want to record some Trials replays and whatnot, then get the Avermedia box and go to town with it.
It records at 30fps out of the box by default but can still record at higher frame rates by changing the settings. It uses frame rate decimation while recording so the output file is 30fps which means for videos that you will upload or stream (where the frame rate is limited, eg youtube), you should end up with a better quality video over someone who recorded at 60fps then decimated the frame rate before upload.Originally Posted by ShiftySamurai
Ultimately, most of the models mentioned here are well worthy for what you want them for so i would just keep an eye out on ebay/amazon and buy one when it hits a price you are happy with.
First off, i really appreciate your input on this.Originally Posted by ShiftySamurai
And, yeah, i've decided that, if i'm gonna do this, i might as well go all the way, but i'm still undecided between the HD PVR 2 and the Elgato, so, i don't know, i' think i'll do a bit more research on that, and order one of those at the end of the week.
Well, most ppl, kinda, don't really have a choice, because the AverMedias are the only devices that offer that option...Originally Posted by ShiftySamurai
I think that, with the AverMedia, i could just set up the video quality and the sound levels in a test, before recording for real, and then be good to go.
And if there was something i still didn't like about the image, or the sound, i could just change it in any video editor software.
So, i could make that work, but i've decided to just bring the console into my room, and do things the right way.
