This is cool stuff Shifty, thanks for sharing.

I look forward to seeing the final build when it's complete.

I said the "kind of games" I was pointlessly taking a poke at shifty's gaming tastes because he said he approves of Sim City (new one, which was a disaster in many ways). Just ignore me, his EPIC RIG is sweet and I would like to steal it!
After playing a bit more of SimCity I would probably reduce my score of it from 4.5/5 stars to either 3 (maybe even 2.5), but not because of the always-on requirement. There are a few too many odd things going on right now with their traffic and resource handling for it to really matter how you plan out a city.

Side note, I can play Trials Evo Gold at 1080 with no issues. I can play TombRaider on Ultimate with TressFX at ~47fps.

XBMC, however, hard crashes while populating my video library. (They're MY movies! Look at the first few pics! See where it says "DVDs"?! That's because I've been ripping my DVDs! )

On topic: My fan power splitter should be in today, as well as a knock off Xbox 360 for Windows receiver. Dear Microsoft, why can't I find an Official receiver on Amazon?

They don't clarify completely, but this is the one I got a couple months back. Notice in one of the images it does have the receiver and is official.

I think he´s talking about buying only the receiver and using a regular Xbox 360 Wireless Controller...

Exactly this. I already have a few controllers at my house. I just wanted the receiver. This one is labeled a bit... incorrectly, but most people seem to get it to work easily and it's only $13...

Re: Shifty's Chop Chop MacPro (OR) EPIC RIG OF EPIC PROPORTI

I forgot all about this thread for a while now.... SORRY!

The total PC cost was around $1200, but that included the case and all of the parts and tools I had to pick up to modify it. I did get the front fans to work correctly after getting the y-adapter, but both fans are currently producing a high pitched whine. Little under 1 year for the fans is a bit of a let down, I'll be picking up some better ones soon.

I also got the rear I/O plate fitted and the power cable no longer just sticks out of a hole on the back.

Also of note: the RAM that I purchased had "1.4v" printed on the package and said, in very clear language, that if I were to up the voltage then I could tear apart the fabric of space-time and destroy the world. I have that RAM set at 1.8v and the crashing went away, so they don't know what they are talking about.

I picked up an "Official Microsoft Wireless Controller Dongle" for like $15 off of Amazon, and I am currently running Windows 7. Not Win8, not OSX, but Windows 7. My PC boots into XBMC and is used as a HTPC that also drives content to my ATV3 (via iTunes) and my Sony TV (views XBMC without the need for any additional hardware, woohoo!).

The PC is currently controlled with an X360 controller for most things, with a wireless KB&M for internet browsing and such.

Edit: Power LED works fine. I had the LED ground lead incorrectly installed.

Unless you're gonna buy another Radeon HD graphics card and bridge it together with your current one on that motherboard, in which case you'd have to up your power supply to a corsair 1200w, Im kind of disappointed. This is like the poor mans "nice" computer.

Your setup is wired nice. It's cleanly put together.

I applaud the fact that you're smart enough to do this. A lot of people get ripped off by under-performing/over priced desktop computers that they see on a display shelf and purchase at a Best Buy.

I built my own computer from scratch too. Mine performs better than yours

If you'd like, I could put together a series of pictures showing you how to build a computer that won't be outdated and under performing by the time you've uploaded your last pict... oooo too late too late.

I see you've already beaten me to both punches.

    Hugs n kisses <3

Re: Shifty's Chop Chop MacPro (OR) EPIC RIG OF EPIC PROPORTI

Over a year ago this was a mid-tier low-cost enthusiast build. It was intended to play a few games, but to mostly be an HTPC and whole home media server, as mentioned a few times in the thread. I didn't want any of that BS LED side window case crap, as the PC sits beside my TV stand, so I purchased a Mac Pro case. In my opinion they are amazing looking computer cases. The case, and prep cost, was also a large portion of the build price.

To build a comparable PC over a year ago in a case designed for PCs instead of an aluminum Mac case you would be looking at $800-$900. It's in no way supposed to be some kind of ultra high performance uber gaming rig. It's plugged into a TV and used a wireless KB&M and a 360 controller.

Are you really reviving a thread to troll forum admin, or am I reading your post wrong?

Yes, I was poking a little bit of fun at you. I think you do a good job of handling a tiny joke w/o taking it personal.

.. Then again, it came from me. I understand you'd like nothing more than to bring down, open up, and back hand the out of me with the iron fist.

If you did take it personal though, I apologize.

I was honestly trying to suggest bridging graphic cards w/ an increase in your power supply if you were to ever become interested in doing more with your computer. These pictures you took and posted in this thread brought me back to when I used to build computers. I think more people should be aware of how easy it is to actually build one.

Revive this thread to troll? No.

Revive this thread to inform, share, and discuss? Yes.

... I think you've got me all wrong Shifty. Don't believe the hype.
