I've watched the guide videos on improving performance, but to me it seems making objects Decoration Only doesn't help much.
I would just like to ask the experienced track builders, would it be advisable to literally make every single object decoration only except for the ones that the bike actually touches?
it only matters for objects that enter the physics bubbleOriginally Posted by ReconN7
so only for objects close the the driveline
i was in a party last night asking the exact same thing to a m8 . and turning to decoration only cured my slight screen tear at the start of my track . it ended up being a tree and the reflection of some glass . defo use this again more often .
How close to the driving line approximately?Originally Posted by sparkierjonesz
click on the square infront of the rider and go to its properties, click visualisation always on or something along those lines. The red dotted circle is the physics bubble.

lowering the range of lights and lowering the force of fire works or explosions can make allot more of a differance than making objects decoration only. driving inside seed buildings is a no no and making them decoration dosn't make much if any difference. Driving inside seed buildings can still be done with allot of comprimises but now that i know how to snap it is somthing i would never do unless they were all ready in the world. Over all if you definately won't land on somthing think about explosions and other factors it won't do any harm to make it decor only . Allso lots of glued objects can cause major lag and moving parts can as well. But for me lowering light range is probably where i start, you can allways have an invisible light source closer to the track if you want to have visble lights further away. Basicaly i'm still learning my self but these are the best tips i got.
Edit
Allso if you want to have moving parts lot's of glued object or other things that eat up the complexity changing lighting from dynamic to static can help allot but be aware this could have a negative impact on the look of the track as you won't see any shadow from the rider in sections using static lighting.
Allso having camera zoomed in slightly so that less of the scenery is in shot can help when all else fails.
well that all depends on how big your physics bubble is doesn't it? I always make my physics bubble as big as it can be i think its 90m maybe? then i turn absolutely everything in the all the background set to decoration only. You can see how much of a difference it makes when you dont have decoration set on any and you start to get screen tare then you turn all objects to decoration only and watch the massive improvement to you tracks performance.Originally Posted by sparkierjonesz
i always start off by not setting to decoration only so that when i come near the end of my track and i start to get screen tare then i have massive amounts of objects to change to decoration and pretty much remove ALL screen tare in 1 multi select move where i select everything at once and change to decoration only.
it might seem daft to not just do this from the start but then what happens if you start getting screen tare while everything is already set to decoration? you have to start deleting things you didnt want to, by leaving it till the end you know your limits more accurately and when u start to get screen tare this is no worry cos you know you have loads of objects to change to decoration that will fix the issue.
have a look at some of my tracks, i like to fill my tracks with as much details as i can and i use this technique to help me![]()
DECORATION ONLY is very very important imo if you know how to obtain the most advantages from it,
also having a big physics bubble is good because if something is moving outside the physics bubble it will just come to a stop sometimes floating in mid air because the physics bubble aint big enough to register it moving and this makes your track look very amateur, the last thing you want is to crash and have your bike floating in mid air in the background while your body is flying along the driving line

interesting about having a bigger physics bubble it is somthing i never thought of would i find that in track settings?
Allso i'm guessing that come the end of the track and you want to get slightly more performance decreasing a 90 metre bubble by a few metres might help allot, What do you think smeghead?
you find all options about bubble if you press up on d pad when you have the red box infront of rider selectedOriginally Posted by look3y
you can even change the bubble dynamicly so when tou have a more detailed section in a track you could reduce bubble to improve preformance
