This works to a certain extent, but you don't have the range a controller does.

Edit: I could even see how learning some things could be easier on the keyboard because everything in the default game is doable, so if you can just figure out when to flip the switches to pull it off, you might be more consistent that way.

Re: So, seriously, Controller or Keyboard?

Keyboard is on or off, it is more direct but it's the exact opposite of precision, you should use whatever you feel more comfortable with but the analog controls are more precise, this is a fact.
To QcChopper and PenguinFTW: I defined precision as the ability to repeat moves exactly, and by extention it is because the controller has a much broader range that it is less precise. Conversely, nothing could be more precise than binary on or off. Although I do agree with what you are saying, and if by precise you mean to hold a specific point of throttle within a broad range, then of course the controller is more precise. But these are adjectives, not facts. Using other words, I'm sure we can all agree that controller has more range, and keyboard more predictability.

In short, people shouldn't be afraid to use the keyboard if that is what they prefer, despite it's clear lack of range. I managed to get top 3 global with it, so I can safely say it works. I won't claim that it is better than a controller, but simply that the OP's question can be answered like this: You have a choice, and will not be competitively limited by your choice of controller.

With regards to the in-game tracks maybe, I couldn't speak to that aspect one way or another as that's not what I do.

There are custom tracks that you won't be able to complete with a keyboard though

Eventually today, I bought an XBox controller out of curiosity. Aaand... it's interesting. Partly hilarious (I've basically lost the brakes, but I've also been able to beat some of my times on *some* tracks - while setting new records in the amount of faults on others. However, I might actaully get into the habit of using it.

Re: So, seriously, Controller or Keyboard?

    Hi guys,

I prefer the keyboard but it lacks throttle controls.
I just made a thread in the support section as I think it should be there.
I would appreciate it if you guys would have a look and comment and what not.

Also, how I can say which is better with what and what not:

Xbox 360 Controller- It has gas difference between how much you hold on it, and you can use Lstick up/down for some misc movements, but you cannot press left and right the same time that the keyboard has.

Keyboard- It does not have gas difference, just 0% or 100% gas compared to Xbox 360 controller, but you can bunny-hop faster because you have one finger on every direction key, so you can press both keys at a time.

Re: So, seriously, Controller or Keyboard?

Braking with the Phoenix is next to impossible on keyboard (you flip over if you hold the brake, for those who play with controllers), but I'm starting to get the hang of it.

Bunny-hopping isn't as easy as you made it out to be with the keyboard. I lean forwards, then back which makes me wheelie, then accelerate, which makes my back wheel stick out too far or, at the worst, I just flip over and headbutt the floor. What's the point in those helmets if headbutting the floor makes the rider fall off the bike? But again, I'm still getting used to the new physics engine since T2SE, I'll probably get better with time.

I'm fairly certain keyboard and the controller are balanced for tracks which count towards your global score, one has other advantages whilst the other has certain other advantages which balance out. Playing ninja tracks with the controller is still possibly a no-go, but until someone good (read: anyone except Kim) tried a ninja track on keyboard, we won't really be able to judge.
