Hi there!
First of all: fantastic game! Since I'm strictly a PC-gamer (not by choice, but just by fact), here's a big Thank You to Redlynx.
Now, I had a go at the first bunch of Extreme tracks yesterday evening and... it wasn't pretty. I was doing okayish on Dark City (okayish = not accumulating 50+ faults before the second CP) but then that basketball court obstacle made me give up. I guess I am not patient enough anyways to have a shot at becoming any good at Trials, but still I was wondering how feasible the extreme tracks really are with keyboard onoff controls. Also, I'm seeing custom XBox Tracks on youtube which seem completely impossible to me (like, wallclimbs, looong wallclimbs). So, should I buy a controller? But then again I can imagine that the time spent getting accustomed to it might be better spent by practicing my skills with the keyboard - that is, if all the things can be done with digital input.
Advice, please. Thanks.
Personally, I would suggest getting an EggBox 360 controller for Windows. I use it for all driving games, and the triggers have proved immensely helpful for those pesky hillclimbs in Trials.Originally Posted by Karmacoma
You definitely need to buy a controller if you want to do well in the extreme tracks. I haven't actually tried any of them with the keyboard, but that's because I got sick of the keyboard while doing the medium tracks. The controller allows a lot more control over the bikes throttle and the rider's posture, as well as being more comfortable than the keyboard.

The extreme tracks are possible with keyboard, though you may need some rapid tapping on the throttle but I wouldn't say they're massively harder with a keyboard because it's all about what you've used to play with. I just tried dark city run with keyboard and surely 18 faults was a bit more than 0 with a controller but then again I began with 300+ faults with the controller first time I played. Plus some people still use the A and X for throttle/brake and d-pad for leaning on controller so that's basically the same thing.
I prefer to play with keyboard, so far I have already beaten most of my times from xbox with only 10 hours of playtime on Gold![]()
When it comes to the extreme tracks all you need is momentum! you can get over some walls easily, you'll see. the only part of the game where I had problems yet was inferno 3 but you'll get that too if you train hard enough.
when it comes to some geniuses who make their so called "ninja" tracks where you have to drive up 89.999 degree walls it is virtually impossible to get up there with a keyboard
since you only can run with full throttle on keyboard those ninja tracks for gold will hopefully be made a bit different, otherwise I wont play them/not able to get up the hillOriginally Posted by Ahri![]()
Ah, yes, I was thinking about exactly this. Being in green text on top of that, I assume that since I can say with probably no exaggeration that I haven't touched a controller since the days of the PS1, the question might be settled for me for nowOriginally Posted by mutetus![]()
Thanks, guys.
HI KIM! Why would builders who use a controller even think about what people playing on keyboard would have to do to go up a hill? It's still hard on a controller, are you saying that the controller is the better device to use, as it can more consistently finish obstacles?Originally Posted by Ahri
Just a hint, if you buy a controller:
The Controller should have analog triggers like the ps3 or the xbox gamepad. Gamepads like the logitech dual action only have digital triggers. You can still map throttle and brake to the second analog stick, but i guess analog triggers are easier to control.
