I think everyone must know this but I'm just leaving a topic about it so the devs can see it.. I have a semi old rig ( Radeon 4870 PhenomX4 9950 BE 2.6 ) and I've played most of the stages of the game.. the only maps where the framerate goes to 1 digit and stutters like crazy are those with really deep field of vision..
In almost every indoor stages my framerate is always 50-60 and is quite playable.. in open stages with really deep backgrounds the framerate can go to 5 fps and after a few seconds 60 fps.
I hope the devs can create an option to limit the field of view of the backgrounds.. I'm sure this should fix most of the framerate problems we have right now.
the "backgrounds" are PLAIN and simple . there is hardly ANYTHING in the backgrounds, if anything i would like to see BETTER backgrounds with alot of stuff moving and better textures ect.. limiting the background FOV is the stupidest thing ive heard about this game, the stutters have nothing to do with the plain backgrounds , its unoptimized poxbox code, untill they fix there internal code "turning off or limiting the background wouldn't do anything" I COULD BE WRONG but to me the backgrounds in a pinball game have more detail ...Originally Posted by Renzosuken
It's not about the detail of the backgrounds.. it's about how DEEP the FOV is on some stages.. in all those stages with a really DEEP Fov the game stutters and the framerate goes to 10 fps or less all the time..Originally Posted by beastt
I play almost every indoor Trials HD stages at 50-60 fps.. in outdoor stages some of them work almost perfect also ( same framerate as indoor ).. but in every stage with really deep backgrounds the framerate suffer so much that becomes unplayable ( in this case the backgrounds have little detail but the Fov is huge )
I really hope they can change this or invert the backgrounds.. so we have mountains closer or something similar.. I really don't care about detailed backgrounds.. all I want is smooth 60 fps gameplay in outdoors.. even is the only thing I see behind is mountains and the sky.
I thought it might be that originally but I don't think it is.
You can get the frame issues in the Trials HD courses just the same.
That's weird.. I have almost no fps drops in 90% of the Trials HD courses.. but in Evolution courses everytime the game has a really deep background my game lags like hell..Originally Posted by TemptedNZ
If we could only choose the background of the tracks and pick one much more simple.. I'm 100% sure the game would run smooth almost all the time
I am disappointed too, don't know if the patch was released yet, the game still is so choppy with all graphic options turned off.
I remember this series was super optimized for 360 hardware to run at 60 fps. The trouble porting it to PC is the hardware obviously has differences.
I'd give them a month or so to fix it. I'm on a 6870 and 4 core PC, 8 gb ram, and there should at least be a way to run at rock solid 60, which there isn't yet. For a racing game finicky framerates are not cool, and RL knows that.
I'm disappointed too. The only difference between the beta and now is the addition to facebook link on the main menuMy machine should run this game at 60+ constant and it's not the case. I've crashed on the 7 minute medium track because of stutter.
I really hope they will release a performance patch. I'll probably stick to HD tracks which are less prone to FPS drop.
This is super disappointing and really needs to be fixed ASAP. I bought both Trials HD and Trials EVO with Origins of Pain on 360 and I was really excited to buy it again for PC but the framerate stutter makes me feel a little like I wasted my money. I was sold on a better version for PC so please deliver on that. I can live with the DLC not being included but please fix the game so it at least runs properly.
I'm on an i7 2700k and GTX 560ti. I get great performance in games way more graphically intense than this.
Something interesting I've noticed, is that when I run the game in a window, especially at low resolutions, the game runs really poorly. Makes me think the game isn't optimized well on the CPU side of things. But I don't actually know anything about optimization, so it's a wild guess.
For example, running my custom track at 1920x1080 fullscreen is fine. It's not always 60, but it's pretty good. Running the game in a window at 1024x768 or 1280x720, it runs in slow motion. And most official tracks stutter like crazy.

Will experiment more, and post DxDiag in support forums when I get home.
