Effects that don't work when testing my track

Hi peeps, just joined the forums and am only 3 tracks in on my building career, so please be patient with this noobie

So I only just got into using the Pro Editor in Trials Evo, definitely fun & more useful than the lite editor, however - When testing my latest track yesterday, some events & objects I was trying to add didn't work when some did!

For example, afterburner event, portal event & C4 explosive wouldn't work, but things like sound event & explosive barrels did.

I take it every event works in testing so you can see what it will be like in the finished track? For the afterburner for example, I tried adding a trigger to it also, but it still didn't operate at all. Also I got an exploding barrel to go bang yet when I tried C4 with the exact same properties the bike just ran into it as if it were a solid object !

Do you need to add triggers to pre made events like afterburner or portal or do they work on their own?

It made me wonder if I'd just have to place events & see if they worked after I'd uploaded the track when I obviously then can't change anything.

    Thanks for any help,
    Rick

all events and filters need impulses(red lines)

yep, if it has the option "Select Event/Filter" it needs an impulse, this option also passes on its received impulse so you can chain events and filters together.

other things to consider as well, the editor camera has its own physics bubble, so if an effect works in the editor and you find it looks odd or just doesn't work properly when testing, chances are its outside the physics bubble.

your C4 also sounds like it didn't have physics enabled.

Re: Effects that don't work when testing my track

Nothing changes once a track is uploaded.
Basically, if it don't work in the editor, then it ain't gonna work. It needs fixing.
So... all events need a trigger (impulse) as stated above, to activate when required. Eg an effect event linked to a disabled fire event will only activate the fire once it receives an impulse from a trigger. Hit trigger/area trigger etc. In the trigger options, you click the 'on hit' option and point it at the effect event you want, which, in turn points to the effect.
Things like c4 need one of two things to explode...
Either activate physics in its options (advanced physics, hit points sets how sensitive it is)
    Or...
Use a trigger linked to a break event, linked to the c4. So when the bike activates the trigger the event reduces the c4 hitpoints, instantly to zero and it explodes.

    Hope this helps...

Someone already posted while I was writing this essay so sorry if I have repeated any info.

Have you viewed the editor tutorial videos Redlynx have on youtube? They are something that really helped me and gave me a decent understanding on the basics of the editor. There are over 30 videos, most are under 5 minutes and can save you a lot of time on building things in the editor as well as giving you tips on building tracks.

Here's one of the tutorials on triggers and events.

And here's a link to the rest of the tutorials here on the forums. Redlynx put them in a well organized list that will tell you what each tutorial is about.

Wrong! My new skill game never crashed at all whilst developing. After upload you are getting a crash no matter what if you make it about half way through my level or more.

    apdenton1 is right,
there are many track creators including me, that happened, especially skill games.

My latest creation, I had a area trigger simulating if it is on the floor or not. In the editor, it works fine, but when on TC, it works harsh.

    Cheers guys

No doubt it's easy after some, excuse the pun, "trialling"

I'm finishing my latest as we speak, so it will give me a chance to try out triggers, etc.

    Wish me luck!
