Show Me The Money!
Consider this an introduction but with a directed purpose. I may ramble a bit but it's all to an ends so please bare with me. How do you do?
I played Trials HD to a reasonable standard but only really dabbled into platinum territory and didn't understand the techniques I was using beyond exerting a good control over the bike. I bought Trials Evolution and despite it's obvious brilliance I wasn't blown away because it felt easy in comparison to HD. I played it for about a month and once the achievements had dried up I moved on (massive achievement junkie here). This christmas just gone I played it again for the first time in months with my nephews. They loved it but it reignited something in me after playing against my two brothers who had never really played a Trials game before. I bought both of the DLCs and from working through those (they seem like harder courses than the main game) the techniques clicked and I finally understood what I was doing and how it was working. With my new found skill and confidence I went back and smashed my old times and have since achieved platinum on all the stock tracks up to and including the first Extreme track. I cannot explain how much Trials has taken over my gaming life. I've pretty much played this solely since christmas and I play nearly every day for a couple of hours.
The fun has started to dry up and it has become a grind of platinum or restart so I started playing multiplayer to break the tedium. Turns out I'm consistently pretty good at anything below Hard difficulty and I don't know the Supercross courses at all. Practice clearly pays off! I'm looking for people of a similar standard to compete against in both multiplayer and single player times. Most of my times are hitting the range of between 3000-7000 on the leaderboards. Please feel free to send me a friend request. My Xbox gamertag is Cormac.
Now that I'm done pimping myself I'll get to the purpose of my thread.
Why is Trials Evolution still so god damn tight fisted with the money?
This wasn't an issue before the DLC arrived. I'd bought everything except about 5 helmets that I didn't like and I had more than enough money to buy them. The first DLC adds clothing items which range in price from the simply outlandish to the eternally unaffordable. The second DLC did it again.
For a while I thought they'd bumped up the amount of money we were earning per track in the DLC but then it dawned on me that I was earning bonuses because for the first time in ages I was regularly unlocking medals from playing new tracks. That has ended now. Any medals I earn are hard fought and hugely satisfying. For a while I was rinsing the medals in order to maximise the bonuses. Struggling to get a bronze by repeatedly falling at the last checkpoint only to underestimate and fall short on faults and unlocking a silver instead thereby missing out on maybe $500. This didn't last long because it was infuriating.
Tournaments should be a premium source of income because you have the added pressure of sequential tracks but the amount they give you for doing those tracks is less than you would have got if you did them individually. What is that all about?
I turned to multiplayer and at first I thought it wasn't contributing to my overall kitty at all but after a few ranks I noticed a measly $100 each time I ranked up.This after playing maybe a minimum of 12 tracks of Medium difficulty or below? This process repeats until you hit rank 10 and then it increases to $300 but it now takes more races to level up. The increments have increased to $600 for every rank between 20-30 but it is far too little reward for such a huge number of races.
The stage I'm at in the game I'm basically aiming for perfect fast runs for platinums so more often than not a mistake leads to me restarting the track which nets me nothing. I might session a track for an hour and only finish it 8 times. The best way of earning cash seems to be doing short Hard courses and just seeing them through but that is counter-intuitive to the way I'm trying to play the game. It takes me too long doing the Extremes to justify the extra money.
I've spent over $1M and I have nearly £300k saved up but it just comes at too slow a pace to realistically see myself ever owning all of the items available for sale, I've put in nearly 6 days of game time! Having to hold my money because I'm saving for a particular item is galling when I hit the level of something else I also kind of want. I don't like either of the torso items I have left to buy but I still want both of them. Why did they have to make them so god damned expensive? I bought the DLC with Microsoft points which equate to real money for the developer. Why are they demanding an extra payment of blood, sweat and tears to unlock the clothing that they tease me with?
How much money have you guys earned/spent and how long have you played the game for?
What tips can you give me for earning quick cash?
Any chance somebody could bring this up with Red Lynx?
If you're still with me then congratulations you have just won our star prize. Please write to the attached address with a cheque for $100 and your favourite four digit number.
Show Me The Mother ******g Money!!!
P.S. How do i get me one of those funky signatures with my medals tally in it?
Edit: tl;dr

Re: Show Me The Money!
Welcome to the forums.
People have been bantering about the money thing for a long time, your not the first. Best thing to do is just grind the best level over and over for hours. That being, a level that gets you the most dollars per second that it takes you to finish. Most people prefer fishy business, as it takes a veteran rider less than 40 seconds to do.

Re: Show Me The Money!
So i've been lurking these forums for a long time, but now i just have to say something...
I think it's real ****ty that, we bought the DLC, like you said, with real money, but we can't realistically have access to the content we bought...
I just think that, the way they handled it, it's just plain wrong.
If they want to come out with stuff like that, they should not market it as part of the DLC they want you to buy.
Cos maybe you really like to dress up, and show off your stuff to your friends, so you get the DLC, you get into the game, you get to the garage, and...
You find out that you can't access the thing you just bought...
Unless you play the single player game for the next 30 hours...
Look, next time you guys want to do something like that, do it outside of the DLC you're selling, and look at free to play games, give ppl the option to either play the game for a long time to get it, or just let ppl pay a couple of dollars for it.
Everybody wins...
But selling something just to lock it way like that...
****ty move.

Re: Show Me The Money!
Thanks guys. I had a feeling that this was probably an old discussion but I'm terrible at using forum searches and I wanted a big impact entrance onto the boards!
I can do Fishy Business in about 50 seconds but I haven't attained the platinum yet so if I fault I'm inclined to restart and try again.
There really isn't a better way of earning money than completing tracks ad nauseum? It seems ludicrous to think that there would be but I was hoping beyond hope anyway. Have Red Lynx ever made a statement about why they would do such a sadistic thing to their paying customers?
I could understand if they wanted to make them over priced as it adds to their appeal due to exclusivity (even though they're everywhere in multiplayer) but even at half price they would still be stupidly expensive and beyond the average Trials player.
Seems to me that the developers are catering to the hardcore end of their fanbase with these DLC packs. The tracks seem harder, the achievements are ramped up in difficulty and the awesome new clothing items are beyond the mere mortal who will only ever play Trials at a very basic level. Nothing wrong with that but some of us don't have Herculean reflexes or photgraphic memories or genetic enhancements or super powers or robot appendiges so cannot ever dream of scaling the dizzy heights they've set out.
I'm getting carried away with my words. I'm not trying to start a ruck or stir up old arguments. I'm just wondering how I'll ever be able to wear the dragon head with the cyber suit and astronaut shoes when that costs more money than I've earned through playing my entire 6 days.
I'm doing it again.

Unfortunately, there are downsides to the games design. Your SOL unless they someday decide to change things up.

I hear you but the flip-side of that understanding is that nothing gets done unless people kick up a stink and whilst I don't want to kick up a stink I do want something to be done about it.
If only I was organised and motivated enough to take some proper action instead of raising old issues on the developers own forums. I would hope some impassioned fool reading this would either be motivated enough to take up a petition of names or in a position to nab the ear of somebody at RedLynx and plead them into a rethink.
Unfortunately I have little faith in people generally and how can I when I am so apathetic towards action so I guess SOL sounds about right.

This is the feedback and suggestion page. Feel free to mention anything you want that you think can improve the trials experience.
Redlynx does care what people think, and takes people's feedback seriously.
Edit: and if you think a petition for an idea is the way to go, as they say, if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. Catch my drift?

I caught your drift a while ago, it's gone stale now. I'm guessing we aren't the only two people reading this and since we've both made our positions clear it would be apparent that the burden of responsibility lies elsewhere. I'm holding on to the slim chance that these words strike a chord with the right person.
Don't even think of this as a direct response to the above post. It's just another dose of overt subliminal suggestion.
Somebody has the power.

There are tons of things you can buy with less money. But if you want something crazy looking you have to save up for it. Just like in real life. IMO there is no problem here. It gives people something to aim for down the road.
