So, have any of you guys played it yet? I was really excited for this game like a year ago, but the more I hear about it, the worse it sounds. I'll probably hold off on this one for now, at least until the server issues are fixed and there's a big price drop; and just pick up Sim City 4 instead.
I've played the crap out of SimCity over the last few days. There have been some server hiccups, but that's to be expected with newly released games. Even if you have 5k beta players, releasing to whole continents is another story.
The fact that cities aren't available from all of the different servers, and aren't saved locally, is a bit of a pain, but the game is not bad at all. Well worth the money for me (especially since Amazon had it with a $20 gift card).
Also, having a city roll back because you've lost connection to the server can be rage-inducing. Your enjoyment will vary, but I am not sorry I picked it up.
I saw this the other day in game stop.....Why is it Called Sim City again? Instead of 5.....I didn't even hear about this game. I played Sim City 3000 like ALOT back ni the day, and I had 4, but rarely played it. I tried to get into it again recently but didn't last over a few days. 3000 was awesome. Maybe 4 was too difficult, maybe the editor part scared me (creating own maps/land) Altho I could probably do it now.Originally Posted by ShiftySamurai
Shifty whats different in this game from the others? Online aspects??
This game focuses more on multiple city trade. It's always online (which it does not need to be) and you can play with anyone, friends, or privately.
Playing with anyone is a bit of a crapshoot, because people will move in right next door and do everything they can to pollute, send crime, and anything else they can think of, to your city.
Playing with friends can end up the same way, though. Depends on your friends.
Cities are much smaller, and initial layout is going to dictate so much of what can and can't happen. You may find yourself bulldozing 30% of your city hours into a game because your mass transit sucks, but you weren't thinking about it when you had 150 residents.
This SimCity is quite a bit different from the others, so they are rebooting with this as the first in the new line of SimCities.
If its still $40 on Amazon I recommend it. Servers are slammed, but EA is working on it and adding new ones.
What do you mean the cities are smaller?? like whats a compareable map size like 20x20 tiles vs 40x40 tiles? or something.
I have been played Sim Ciry few years ago. And at that time it was really amazing game, so realistic and helping to keep in touch almost with a real life spheres and etc. Now I am looking from mine own side I can agree with that idea about Sims Sh**ty . They should stop creating new game parts. But this is jus only my point of view. Maybe for others that now is in my age that I was few years ago this game looks fantastic![]()
This is a quote of mine from an earlier conversation I was having somewhere else on this:
"The newest SimCity, which I thought I wanted......has 2876 reviews on Amazon.....and 2600 of them are 1 star. Every video review I watch says its a complete and utter failure."
OK, so "complete and utter" might have been embellishing a bit. Sure they have great things to say about graphics (as you would expect) and the ability to get right down to ground level with the individual Sim...and SOME people have had NO PROBLEMS...but they are in the minority.
However....as far the roll out, the server overload and server errors....the persistent online connection required....and the things that are left out of the game IE: Subways (and several things available in SimCity 4) because the intent is to charge you for them later as expansion packs or things along that lines.....this game is probably the biggest failure ever (not my words).
I wanted this game BAD!!! Which is why I watched so many videos on it. I'm SO glad that I didn't get it now. I just hope that they make another completely new SimCity and FAST!!! I hope they take all the criticism and make a new game that can be played solo if you want to and they get the server issues under control quick.
I hope this works out:

I was really interested in SimCity, and was literally about to buy it when I saw a video (first day) complaining about the servers. So I bought Tropico 4 (Which is on steam, with all DLC for £8 btw!). Haven't played it yet but I refuse to support EA and their rubbish, especially when they force you online constantly (With broken servers!)
I wanted to get it, but after all the comments about server issues I don't know if I will.
It costs €45 in my country which I think is too expensive considering the issues it has at the moment.
Maybe I will pick it up someday if it's on sale.
The game was just released, hope they will fix it.
