[Workaround exists now!] Controls/Gamepads not supported?

I love the game so far, but on the later levels, I'm facing some serious control problems I had to work around earlier.

Whether it's keyboard, or one of my two USB Controllers, which aren't supported natively somehow but can be used via joy2key, all my problems evolve around the way you can or rather can't accelerate or brake stepless, which was easily possible on the xbox of course.

How are you supposed to beat harder levels if you only can accelerate fully or don't accelerate at all, with nothing in between? There are just things that aren't possible without it, finicky jumps and steep slopes especially?

Is the only way to enjoy the game fully to buy an overpriced xbox controller for a pc game, or will there be a better usb controller support in the full version? And how should it be possible at all to beat some obstacles with non-analogue keyboard inputs? It's a PC game after all.

Would be a shame if I had to stop playing this awesome game because of control issues.

You can always purchase and official controller, is £17 really that expensive? Microsoft Official Xbox/Windows Controller - eBuyer

It's 60 bucks in my country, and that's totally besides a point.

It's a PC game would caps the PC if it wasn't already), and I can't play it properly with neither keyboard nor two USB Controllers? There is something wrong then. Fix it or put a warning advice like "needs xbox 360 controller to be played properly" in the advertisement.

Urrrm, says 360 controller recommended in minimum specs..!

And... You can't expect the devs to work with your two, yet to be branded and named, and everyone elses USB controllers..!

Annnd... Your problem is either with your controller or you joy2key configuration. I say this as people have non xbox controllers working with joy2key.

How come so pricey? Where do you live?

I really don't know what you expect them to do. A key on your keyboard is just one click, there's no half pressing, RedLynx certainly can't install triggers on your keyboard. It's clearly possible to complete the harder levels using the keyboard because (although I haven't tried) I have heard nobody else complain about it, plus people completed the extremes in T2SE.

They're not going to put all the effort in to supporting each and every aftermarket controller, when 95% of people use the official ones anyway.

There isn't a lot that we can do about the digital hardware that a keyboard uses, but there are KB players that do better than some controller users.

Also, this is from the System Requirements:
PERIPHERALS: Mouse, keyboard (Xbox 360 Controller for Windows recommended)
Also, from what I understand, Joy2Key maps keyboard buttons to the joystick, these (in theory) would be changed to digital as well.

    Have you tried XPadder?

    Re: Controls/Gamepads not supported?

joy2key works, but can't be made to work analogue.

I bought this on steam, and there is no hint at a xbox controller being needed or recommended.

I also kinda doubt that keyboard users do better than gamepad users until proven otherwise, but let's not debate over that. To say that noone else has this problem because noone else complained so far is really hilarious given the facts that the game isn't even released officially yet, and probably not too many who haven't played it already, thus having the required controller, will be on the last levels after a few days, given framerate issues and such (which doesn't bother me this much).

Is there a (not necessary) list of supported controllers available? Is an official PS3 controller supported? What about some brands like logitech?

I'm trying x360ce right now, don't think xpadder will do anything that joy2key doesn't. EDIT: Doesn't work (yet?) since x360ce needs to support games individually which obviously didn't happen for trials yet.

By the way, there are plenty of ways to emulate analogue controls with keyboard and mouse, but that would require additional effort. So let's not do that, because people can buy a specific controller to play a PC game, something that is NOT a matter of course.

I'd say the $60 is nothing if it means you can enjoy the game to its full potential. Plus from my experience the 360 controller is not only the most comfortable and remarkably well built but also very well supported throughout many other PC games. Bite the bullet

a PS3 controller will work but you'll need to download motionjoy for it (it's a free program so not really a big deal)
I'm not sure but it may work for other controllers as well

Its a PC port of an xbox game, with tracks built for the xbox controller. So obviously you should be using one.
