In order for a Steam CD-key to be accepted by UPlay, you must run the game through Steam. Are you running the game through Steam?

    Simple solution:

Start Uplay without steam, so directly from you windows start menu or the installation folder. Now uplay will start to update its sefl.

Do this 2-3 times to make sure uplay is REALY up to date, then close uplay and start TE:GE through steam.

    Greetings,

Also when you start the game from Steam it'll inform you that you need a code, and it should show the code with an option to copy to clipboard. So copy it and when the game asks for the code simply paste it. Job Done!

He allready knows how to enter it
OOK it could be that he doesnt know how to use strg+c, but in the time when there were CD-Keys only in the box. We all mistyped it sometimes, and we all entered it correct after some time.
