    Trials Gold SweetFX?

Hey folks,, this question is more aimed towards redlynx, I`m big on gfx and how games look, now having watched some of the vids and trailers on youtube and what not I am curious if the tools I use to make games look far nicer will be compatible with gold as they arent in trials 2

    namely my question is...

Will sweetFX work with trials gold?

for those not in the know sweetfx is a set of dll`s that are copied into a games main directory which add pre-processed shaders, some included are lumasharpen, hd, bloom, vibrance,, all in all they can take 95% of any dx 9,10 and 11 games and make them look soooooooo much better, sweetFX also doesnt command the performance hits that a lot of ingame options like fxaa smaa etc demand..

obviouslyt the second I get a go at gold i`ll be trying sweetfx, but just curious if anyone has actually tried it via the previous beta before?

I haven't heard of it, so it's not officially supported, but let us know what it looks like by posting some comparison shots.

I'm prepping for a gaming PC, so something like this sounds pretty awesome to me. Even if it doesn't work for Trials can you tell us more about sweetFX?

    Re: Trials Gold SweetFX?

    yeah sure I can,,

basically as I said it is a small set of directx dll`s which are generally copied into a games main directory, some games differ but a simple check of the readme file or google can tell you where to copy and paste.

**its always advisable to turn off any ingame Antialiasing and allow sweetFX to use its own**

Back to what sweetFX actually does, as I mentioned above sweetfx adds a set of pre-processed shaders to a games gfx, the exact list of these shaders are as follows:

    SMAA_ANTIALIASING - Smoothens jagged lines
LUMASHARPEN - sharpens in game image
BLOOM - Makes bright lights bleed their light into their surroundings
HDR - mimics a high definition look to the game
TECHNICOLOR - mimics the look of an old movie via 3 strip color process
DPX - gives the image a look of being converted to dxp (cinema)
LIFTGAMMA - Adjust brightness and color of shadows, midtones and highlights
TONEMAP - Adjust gamma, exposure, saturation, bleach and defog
    VIBRANCE - Intelligently saturates/desaturates pixels
CURVES - Contrast adjustments using S-curves
SEPIA - Sepia tones the image
Vignette - darkens the image to like like its through a camera lens
DITHER - simulates more colors than your monitor can handle
SPLITSCREEN - splits the screen diagonally, 1 side sweetfx the other normal

Now dont jump to conclussions assuming all these effects are active at one time, you can select which effects you want as well as alter any value of these effects to get your game looking just the way you want it, this is done so by altering the settings file via notepad or any other text based editor, you can simply start your game, switch screen to the textfile, alter a value and switch back, the effect is then instantly updated to what you applied.

The settings file itself is set out in a way that each effect is written telling you what it does and each and every value that you can alter is also written to tell you exactly what it does, above that simply playing with it is the best way to get to grips with it, which most ppl can build there own settings files within 30 minutes of using sweetfx.

direct link to the zipfile containing sweetfx, simply unzip and then copy to your games directory unless otherwise stated in the readme. http://dropcanvas.com/l46x9
heres also a link to a database users have posted there own sweetfx settings for games http://sfx.thelazy.net/games/?page=1

So thats a basic idea of what it is and how its used,, heres some links to screenshots of games with and without sweetfx, the screenies themselves do most of the talking

those are just a few links of how to make stuff better, you can google the sweetfx guru3d forums too for ideas and tech tips etc...

    hope this helps.

    Re: Trials Gold SweetFX?

well sadly sweetfx doesnt work with gold either,, could be uplay is picking it up as a cheat and not allowing the game to start,,, shame really theres a lot of the gfx which imo leave a lot to be desired... could be far better

    Re: Trials Gold SweetFX?

Does it actually have to be "enabled"? I thought it's there to overlay whatever .exe is in the folder...

    Re: Trials Gold SweetFX?

I have tried disabling everything in the config but uplay still refuses to start the game, so its a no go for sweetfx, might have a mess about with the putting the files in diferent places later but at the mo, its no go

    Re: Trials Gold SweetFX?

Ah right,, now managed to get sweetfx working with gold, however in order to do so you need to disable the uplay overlay...

still messing about with it as it seems not all effects are actually making a diference, and the ones that normally do make the diference are very slight..

screenies and more info coming soon..

    Re: Trials Gold SweetFX?

    Be very careful with DLLs!

If you're playing the steam version you are almost guaranteed to be added to Valve's VAC banlist.
The steam app runs checks for foreign DLL files that tamper with the game.
