I have decided to pretty much stop competing in trials altogether....this issue aside, i would like to offer a few suggestions on how to play trials better by choosing the correct equipment in real life.
#1 NEVER use any type of flat screen TV, you want one of those old tvs with the fat back
#2 NEVER use a wireless controller, you want a wired controler (i dont even own a wireless controler and i never will). but make sure you buy an official xbox wired controller so you dont have to deal with terrible off brand controllers...you can only get these online usually because there just isnt a high demand for them (most people suck at gaming hence the low demand)
#3 mess with your settings and try to reduce your picture quality as much as you can...this includes playing in black and white (i find world records more beautiful than colors).
I must admit that there may be other ways to improve on these ideas..there may be better ways to reduce picture quality that i dont even know of...but the essential idea is you want to reduce the graphics quality as low as possible and this will lead to a higher performence rate....in other words, if you follow these 3 tips, what you want to do will just hapen more often for no reason...of course im not promising magic....and you will notice this performence boost most in multiplayer and tournaments....in things that require more consistency...but it helps a lot with speed running too....you still have to train hard and there arent any shortcuts around skill...but very serious players WILL notice a diference and they will never switch back....the reason a wired controler is better is because wireless controllers have a slight delay...flat screen tvs have a slight delay...but let me make this very clear.....you never quite compensate or master the delay caused by these things....it seems to me like a lag that you can hardly notice but one that affects you at all times....that is to say you cant just get used to the delay and expect to play as well as you would with a wired controler and proper tv and settings...ive told several top players these tips and i got mostly negative responses...thats completely fine.....let them tire themselves out using the wrong equipment and making up for it with a larger time investment......but i know for a fact there are people out there who will actualy test what im saying and will then know for a fact that im correct....you dont have to take crazy old Assembly's word for it.....test it yourself.....and maybe those top players who refused to listen to me will figure it out when newcomers show up who level the playing field in less time by having better equipment....just remember that it takes some time to get used to the new equipment because you will be used to the less responsive set up that you had previously been using....if i wasnt quiting i wouldnt even tell you this information....if i wasnt quiting i would enjoy the fact that almost no one had this slight edge over me....so take advantage of the single time im giving something back to the trials community....in my opinion the tv is more important than the controller but the controller is more important than the tv settings (playing in black and white).....if you are going to try to be a pro at trials why not take advantage of everything that will make you play better and make things easier, even if only slightly?
Nope, I wont use an old TV because I'm a track creator and I'm not a top rider
A fat TV's graphic would suck!
PS. If you are sick of riding, then why don't you want to try out the editor and making some cool stuff?
My 50" plasma has a 600hz refresh rate. It is plenty fast for a game like Trials. I will NEVER go back to a fat stupid TV.
I will also never go back to a wired controller. It is an impossibility with all my kids running around. Also, My xbox is above my tv, the cord would fall in front of the screen.
I do like to play with my TV settings though, I am kinda anal about how my entertainment setup is.
Thanks for the tips, but I guess I will just have to continue being a terrible Trials player.
that basicly are some good advises, i have an "old" tv and i knew that flat tv's have delay but i wasn't sure if this affects me or not^^ the thing with the wireless controller is something i can confirm generally! that is something giving you an advantage in any game, not to play with a wireless controller ; )
i have the blobs precision aim controller (wired) and it is perfect for trials!
what i don't understand is what you mean with playing in black and white?? do you mean to turn the colors down in the game options or in the tv options?? in both ways idk why the game should run faster??^^
anyway, thx for the advises bud! hope you can explain the b/w thingy a bit more detailed to me![]()
I think its more about personal preference, Youre gonna play better if you feel comfortable. I went from a standard tv to a hd and will never go back. I can understand there may be a slight delay but i play better when i have better graphics, no matter what game it is.
I play better when I put my big screen in the dining room.
this advice was realy only directed towards top trials players (like pros in the top 15 global list)....they are the only ones dedicaed enough to get to a skill level where they will both notice the slight improvement in controll and give a **** about it....if you think to yourself "who cares if there's a slight delay in handling...i like my hd tv and high quality graphics," then you probably arent skilled enough at trials or dedicated enough to gaming in general to even care about what im saying right now...so dont bother comenting and move along to the next post...my intention here isnt to belittle people but they make it easy when ive made it clear that these techniques are for VERY VERY SERIOUS PLAYERS ONLY...and yet they comment as if these techniques just depend on the person....ive been messing around with my conroler...my tv...and my setings for years (since before Evolution even came out)...i know they work and people who know what they are talking about (skilled people who actually test them) wont dismiss these tips to personal preference
Nah, Trials doesn't need this at all. HD TVs give only a few frames of lag, and that's not too bad with Trials considering there are no frame perfect movements or anything, and you don't have to react since it's all planned.Originally Posted by EndOfAssembly
If you started Trials on a CRT I would recommend staying there as the transition can really **** with you, but honestly it's fine otherwise.
first off let me tell you that i only know this information from trial and error...i cant realy explain the exact science of what im saying but when i say play in black and white i mean the tv settings....Originally Posted by LynxNinjaTrials
