I just newly heard that tomorrow will an asteroid pass by the earth. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_DA14
I'm just worried if it really hit the earth and impact thousands of kilometers.
Scientist say it will not impact on the earth, but look at so many false announces they made like the world will end at Dec. 21 2012, but it didn't happen, and what if this time is a false announcement too???
And I also heard that in 2036 could be a serious asteroid impact on the earth.
I want to know what you think about these.
no (credible) scientist ever said the world was gonna end in 2012, they were crackpots looking for attention.
if NASA say the asteroid wont hit us then id trust their word and not worry about it.
Two very large ones have passed Earth in the last 2 weeks. Next one (size of a football pitch) passes by on Friday!
I had my dad sign up for the ISS pass-by update emails.
It tracks the International Space Station and sends you a detailed message when it's going to be visible in the sky above where you live.
A few nights ago it entered the sky above where I live from the south west, and for four lengthy minutes, soared across the sky to the north east.
It was amazing to watch the brightest "star" in the sky traveling at that speed knowing there is a crew of astronauts up there looking back down at us.
I know this is partly off topic, but watching the skies is a fun and interesting thing to do.
This guy is currently on the ISS and is always tweeting pics of the earth from above:

What if the 46m radius big Asteroid really hit the earth and flatten almost 2000km2 land??? What if the asteroid smashes directly on your home???Originally Posted by WILLYUMZ
Will you still trust NASA's word??? Have you ever thought what disaster this could be??? A whole city would get to powder from a power like a several nuclear bombs!
And what are you going to do if it is going to hit earth, nothing. So don't worry about it.Originally Posted by Blastergamer

If an asteroid a mile wide hit earth it would almost certainly kill just about everything.
Just throwing that out there.
If an asteroid were about to slam into us and blow up half the earth,
A. How far in advance would we know about it?
and
B. Would it even be in the government's best interest to warn us at all, given that the remaining countries may not be able to handle such a massive influx of people?

Also, there would be nothing we could do about it... I actually used to worry about this sort of thing, I finally stopped when I realised it's not gonna hit Earth, and in the tiny chance it does in our lifetimes we wouldn't know about it because we would have been killed instantly - this might sound harsh but I mean it won't be painful, and we wouldn't even know it had happened.
