Whoooa, I never thought about Mirror's Edge... I've played through that multiple times, but I would gladly give it another go with the Rift.
They said that when people play the Rift standing up, it causes a lot more dizziness than when sitting down. A couple people actually have faceplanted![]()
Actually, that reminds me. I remember seeing this treadmill that runs in place (sorta, its hard to explain) and they hooked it up with a panoramic display and some dude played BF3 on it.
Skip to 10:13 for what I'm talking about.
Imagine playing a new Mirror's Edge with this treadmill and the Rift... that'd put you in shape for sure!
OK, I didn't think of stuff like tile-based isometric games, say the old Diablo or Starcraft. Those would be hard to adapt because they're using 2D engines. What I meant were third-person games that are made using first-person game engines. Such as Fallout 3 and New Vegas, the Assassin's Creed seriesOriginally Posted by apdenton1think?), Max Payne, Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, ... In those it's literally just a perspectice swap (at least in Fallout 3, there's even a button to change from 1st person to 3rd person in the middle of gameplay). And those games where 3rd person is necessary for some gameplay mechanic like jumping, the HMD would make it playable.
That's technically correct. And isn't that the best kind of correctness, anyway?Originally Posted by apdenton1
Thought this might be of interest to this thread. From the player's / viewer's point of view, the VR hardware shown in these videos feels more or less exactly like an HMD.
And this one's meant to be ridiculous, but it's still serious:
I forgot: in the first video I posted above, there's third-person footage starting at around 2:20. It makes the whole thing a lot clearer.Originally Posted by DocOk
This would be much cooler if it was tied into something like Kinect. Big woop you look around the game world.....still using a controller.
I can almost imagine playing the original Mario, looking down the whole game world. That would be sick. It would also be more active for people, and more fun than just a dance game. Thats doing 3D and VR RIGHT!
Also, wtf with the name calling and such. Are you not capable of having a convo with people of different opinions? Lets just get on with the convo and be rational.
Agreed, it's easy to get passionate about gaming, but at least keep it on topic.
Too many people say that, but I reckon those people have never played FPS games on console.Originally Posted by nannerdw

Agreed.Originally Posted by apdenton1
I play on PC now, and I do say I miss the left analog stick. Playing racing games is hard using keys, and on FPS's you can't slowly walk. It's either full speed or no speed.
Well there is usually a walk key for most PC FPS, at least in the ones I've played. Still not as good as left stick though.
