what about being able to see another part of your line as you ride along?? like in an arc..this also causes issues...if not mate, then youve covered everything you can by the looks of it..

    Re: Screen Tearing

i always have this problem with the amount of details i use and i also spend hours and hours trying to fix it, i do all the things that you have tried and i also try things like zooming the camera out a little to get a wide view which is actually quite good at reducing screen tare sometimes (dont know why), also turning all the background objects physics properties set to decoration only and using a very big physics bubble to detect these objects as just decoration and not physical and solid

let ya know if i think of anything else, good luck buddy

i would also set area triggers to turn on lights just before they come into play, and use one to turn them off once they have served their purpose....

    Re: Screen Tearing

Have you turned off the sounds from some of the effects? Sparks and lighting have sounds, don't know if that could cause the tearing.

Also, I've found that I have issues when more than 2 effects are on screen at the same time. Would it be possible to disable some of them and see what happens?

    Re: Screen Tearing

@ Morfyboy: I did not use spline for this track, so nothing should be visible except the intended. I did try triggering the lights, but I'm not sure that's the problem, as I also got tears when I removed all lights as a test, also decreased the light range.

@ Smeghead: Interesting ideas, I will try the thing with the physics bubble, maybe I will spot something Not sure I want to mess with camera angles, maybe as a last resort Thanks!

@ Shifty: I have not turned off sounds, that may help. I will definetly try that. And I have already cut down on effects and the light they emit, but there may be more than two in some spots, so I will try and remove all effects and see what happens.

Thanks again for the many suggestions guys, it's one of the many good reasons why Redlynx forum is a great place to hang

    Re: Screen Tearing

In my experience, screen tear occurs when a lot of objects are beinig rendered at once. Usually when they all pop up at once (like getting to the top of a hill and seeing a bunch of stuff on the other side).

To minimize the problem, I try to design my tracks so that its broken up into sections. For example, a really detailed section of the track has a big wall parallel to the driving line so as to hide half the detail till you go over, under or through the wall.

I think people have so many issues with trees and grass is because each leaf or blade of grass is considered an individual object to render.

In my experience, the problem doesnt seem to change much with physics. Excessive use of lights and effects do seem to affect it though. Is your bike lights turned off? Just checking...

    Re: Screen Tearing

@ Jook: Intesting approach, I never thought of building that way, could certainly be something I should look into. Makes perfect sense that rendering many objects at the same time can cause tears.

And yeah, headlight is turned off, I bet the track would be one long tear if I diden't

Interesting too that you guys don't think physics objects has that much effect on tearing, I always imagined it would, especially with glued objects moving.

It's amazing, I have been building tracks for quite a while now, and there are sooo many things in the editor I don't know about yet, and stuff I don't know how to use. Scary to know some of you guys can do it all

    Re: Screen Tearing

Interestingly, if I have any tear in my tracks, its usually right in the first 2-3 seconds of the track. I tend to detail the first section extensivly sometimes. I also noticed that if I hit "b" to restart the first checkpoint, the tear gets lessoned or even goes away the next time I get to that spot. Its like the game has time to properly load the track if I hit B. But if I restart the track with "back" button, the tear is there in full form again.

Glue has a really high complexity value and it can def cause screentear.
Don't know if you building indoors but the shadows created by sunlight also can cause screentear.
Cloud shadows to zero so the clouds don't cast shadows.
More mist can help reduce screentear.
Reduce the radius of any lights that you have in your track.
    decreasing your physics bubble.
    Bike lights off.
Zooming in the cam 1 or 2 clicks.

Those are the things i do to avoid screentear.
