I feel like I'm trapped in a bad cartoon on this forum.
Did UbiSoft hire the first person who walked through their office doors; résumé of Burger King, Walmart, and Circuit City that sort of knew C++ and HTML coding?
I liked the old, gritty, and dark RL forum that was user-friendly -----> USER-FRIENDLY.
I'm not dazzled by the "bells and whistles" of this bright and vibrant forum. I get on a forum to make a post, read a post, and leave a post. I don't login to a forum, sit down in a Starbucks with a Double Mocha-late as I gear up for a 3-hour forum sesh..
I've seen people implement bar coding solutions for companies using Microsoft Dynamics AX and Scanworkx and I guarantee if they were to implement or make any type of merger like this as a solution to fix a problem or make something run more efficient well...
If I had to put a grade on it, to put it kindly, I would say as of now you've FAILED.
But honestly...
What the majority of XBL users are wondering... What happened to RedLynx? Your company is like an Alcaseltzer tablet that's been dropped into a cup of water. How much of that cup are you going to allow UbiSoft to drink? Because before you know it, everything that made RedLynx what it is today, at this rate, will be gone before any of us know it.
...
Hey Purpleoozi,
Could you please be specific about the issues that you have with the new forums? For the most part, it's exactly the same categories. Just a new skin and new platform (vBulletin vs phpBB).
New forums take getting used to. It probably took you a little while to get used to the old RedLynx forums when you first started. But you most likely spent years building familiarity with it. Change is different and during this change, there is a lot of evolving.
I 100% admit that the forums are not perfect. I hear your feedback, but I urge you to spend time on the forum and allow it to be fully polished before you write it off. If there is anything technical we can help with, please feel free to let us know.
Where should I begin?
I understand discretion, but when we're given a notice about a forum merger on the day of the forum merger, that kind of pisses me off (along with a lot of others). I don't remember seeing, reading, or ever being told about switching to this forum until the day it actually happened.
Next, In the previous forum, we used a username and password to login -> Not an email login and password.
This makes it rather confusing off the get-go. I didn't want to sign up for a U-Play account in order to post on a forum that I was already "a part of". If I was a part of the forum like I had been, I should've been able to log right in. I was told we were merging, NOT re-creating and re-starting.
Also, all of my post counts are gone. It's ticky-tac, but again it makes me feel like Im in a foreign place. All of my saved messages from PM's are gone. Everyone I added as friends are gone.
So why on earth after being given little notice, having to sign up for something I shouldn't have to sign up for just to post, having to enter captions before every single post I make, and losing everything I had saved from the previous forums, would make you think that myself or anyone else who used to post on the old forum would actually want to come back and post here?
Are you telling me that tomorrow or within a week I'll see a username and password to login instead of an email and password? Will all of my friends list and PM's that I previously had tied to my old account going to show up here as well?
Here's a simple question you can start with first. I only had about 200-posts, but if we "merge" and you delete our post count, then why are you even keeping count to begin with?
... Crickets.
I wasn't just asking for me. Countless people are wondering these same questions. I've gotten a few XBL messages from old forum members already stating that they will not be returning to these forums.
I never thought I'd say this, but I guess I'll go outside and see what the rest of the world is doing. I haven't done this in 20-years. I bet people are friendly. Wish me luck guys.
OK, I dont have all the answers by any means. But here's the dealio. The hope/aim is to have the post count return and ALL previous threads returned as well. As for PM's, I really have no info on that. Over time, I hope people will see that there are a lot of benefits to this forum and that the community will be able to get used to it and carry on as before. This may obviously take soemt ime to implement and for us all to adjust to the new forums, I understand that. But hopefully we will all be here at Fusions launch and carrying on as before, only with forums that have added functionality.
As for the different sign up procedure, I understand your point and dont really have an answer for you. "It is what it is" seems a little unsatisfactory, but I really dont have the info to provide you with an answer to some of the points you raised.
All I can offer is the point of view of a forum meber right now and hope that everyone is willing to give these forums some time to repopulate, solve issues and for us all to adapt.
Again, sorry I dont have many answers for you, but I'm trying to adapt myself!
Glad to know that you can be objective and a serious guy Oozi!! I have to agree on what you said!!
I´m a RL fan not a Ubi fan... now I´m (we all are) forced to be here... not fun...
The migration is a fail!
@Barry I´m guessing... you are still the community leader?
May i´m wrong, but now we have 5 community managers an a community leader... That´s exagerated!!
Can you explain in what ways please?Originally Posted by Barrybarfly Go to original post
Possibly true for those members that actually stick around to try and see...'same as before' -- imo, nope.Originally Posted by Barrybarfly Go to original post
Yep, but I know you are trying to help.Originally Posted by Barrybarfly Go to original post
I visited the old forum most days, and Oozi is right when he says we really weren't warned i) in good time, ii) with a degree of clarity, as to what was coming. To be slightly facetious the launch of the new forum reminds me of the launch of TE Gold and perhaps the Track Jam contest...rushed and haphazard, but I guess I have to withdraw that comment.
Like many other users I am not happy, so needed to vent some more and explain why I am not happy. I will probably be taking my leave with Oozi I am afraid, and it isn't just down to what happened but how it was handled.
Mati, community leader is basically just lead moderator. As far as the other positions, I believe we have 2 community managers, maybe 3. Given trials will now be across 3 systems, it kind of makes sense to have enough people to cover the extra work.Originally Posted by MaTi_SpOrT Go to original post

Anyway, some of the increased functionality of the forums will lead to integration of certain features, same as with any other forum using vBulletin. The old forums were hjust that.....old! Meaning they were kind of stuck with an extremely limited functionality due to the age of the software.
As for members sticking around, there really isnt a lot I can say to that, other than have some patience while things repopulate and everything is ironed out. I have located a couple of threads today (like Vlad's comp) that people couldnt find yesterday and am keeping an eye out for certain others. If all goes according to plan, they should repopulate given some time. An example is your custom track database. I'm keeping an eye out for it as you have stated that you have not been able to locate it as yet.
As for the lack of notice, I really cant comment. I only moderate and am not privy to those kind of decisions or why they were taken. Right now, RL are all busy trying to get things working properly, but I'm sure there will be some kind of announcement/update/etc in due time.
Again, I realise these may not be the full answers, or the ones people want. But I can only work with the info I have right now.
Community managers that I know so far: Shifty, Johkr, Cannibal, Xhane and a new one that joined yesterday or so... cant remember his nick... so yeah!! a minimum of 5 barry!!! :P
I dont think Cannibal is actually a community manager? And I dont know who the new guys is you're tlaking about. So we may both be wrong adn it might be 4! :P LMAOOriginally Posted by MaTi_SpOrT Go to original post
