After playing the demo for Dead Space 3, it made the wait more painful. I can't wait to see how the story develops. Micro-transactions do not bother me because they are not required to progress in the game. Besides, you could buy beefed-up weapons on the Xbox (and PSN) marketplace in the first two Dead Space games so I don't see this as being too much different.
I think Buttcheek's concerns about pacing are nothing to worry about. Clearly, the demo was a montage of various scenarios that happen in the game and not how things will unfold in the retail version. In the demo, you emerge from the craft, yelling for Ellie but when you face off against the drill, she comes on the intercom like everything's ok. Also near the end of the demo, there's a key character that Isaac pushes into cover that we have no idea who he is (but Isaac/ Carver clearly know him). I also believe that the variety of enemies in the demo were just to give us a taste and not how it'll be in the retail version. I believe most enemies will have a proper introduction.
Here are my opinions on some of the changes:
1. Universal ammo - I don't care either way if the ammo is universal or not. I understand that the developers made this decision so it would make sharing ammo with your partner easier, plus all of the various types of weapons would have you using up all of your inventory slots if they had different ammo types (as is the case in the first two Dead Space games).
2. Co-op - I didn't play the demo co-operatively but I can totally understand how it would be less scary. With that being said, I'm glad that co-op is an option and it's not the only way to play. I love how you can play through the game solo for the "classic" Dead Space feel. My main fear was that you'd have an AI-controlled partner like in Resident Evil 5 and that would've been absolutely dreadful.
3. Human enemies - I really hope there isn't a lot of human enemies in the retail version. Fighting necromorphs is so much more engaging and intense. Towards the end of Dead Space 2, there were combative humans but they were quickly dispatched by a horde of necros. This is acceptable but I don't want Dead Space to be like Half-Life where you have to worry about humans and non-humans at all times.
In closing, I welcome the changes so far to the franchise and I don't feel like they've "ruined" it. The weapon crafting could allow for some really awesome and unique creations and I love the ice planet setting. It's a nice change of pace from being on a ship/ space station. It also makes it feel like John Carpenter's The Thing, which is good.
