If there is an argument why hardcore games shouldn't be made anymore it's this: They can be extremely addictive.![]()

Here's a crazy concept, if a game has depth, challenge, and complexity, people will play it again and again to get better at it. Who'd a thunk? This concept seems foreign to most developers. Does anyone keep watching the same movie over and over hoping to get better at it. Dude, I am so good at Citizen Kane. Seriously, make games where you can improve instead of just running around pressing RT to get to the next sub-par movie scene.Originally Posted by apdenton1

There is still a viable market for hardcore games, but it just doesn't bring in as much money as the casual one. Considering AAA devs insist on budgets of too many millions, it's never considered. Even Dark Souls hasn't really done anything to change this.
There are some nice things devs have done, such as Bioshock: Infinite's 1999 mode, but it really didn't do System Shock 2 any justice, it didn't add any depth, it only improved the challenge, which is better than nothing though.
However the casual games are often too casual. Simplified beyond providing any kind of gameplay, it amazes me some sell.
I was watching my gf play Diner Dash the other day, I was mocking her, asking her why was she playing it, and asked her to go cook me dinner instead and wait on me. I said I'll give her points based on her cooking and waiting, and I'll leave the background music of DD on, so it would be very similar to playing the game....
Shortly after she dashboarded and started playing Castle Crashers(which isn't hardcore, it's just a good game).
I beat the Gaping Dragon last night. I used a summon, made a time consuming fight a little easier and faster. Those Basilisks in the Depths are so scary, my god I was so tense fighting them. I also killed Kirk. Now I am going to head into Darkroot Garden to kill Moonlight Butterfly before heading into Blightown.
I entered Blightown, what a horrible area. I even tried going in the back way hoping it would be better, nope. Any tips to guide me through?
I haven't played it since it's release in 2011 but:
Options:
-Stock up on antidotes or whatever item it is that cures poison.
-Strip. Take off the majority of your armour to be more agile and dodge enemy attacks easier. Careful not to fall off the edge though![]()
-Use the internet, look up a map of Blightown and plan-out a run to the closest bonfire. (last resort).
-Purchase healing spell from firelink shrine (has an attribute requirement).
-Purchase a offensive ranged spell from shrine (has an attribute requirement).
-Use humanity to heal if really desperate.
-Farm souls and level up.
-Rage quit and go play Fable instead![]()
-Just persist (recommended).
I heard Blightown this, Blightown that, but I didn't really find it all that hard. I do have much experience with games like this though.
Just DLed Dark Souls for $10 on xbox!!! Not far in, just grinding a bit near the first bonfire you can level up at, but I like it so far. Death really does teach you what not to do.
Not a fan of 3rd person cameras as they are usually a bit wonky near walls, and this game is no exception, but its not screwing me up yet.

Definitely get it...if you play it during your first playthrough you can get some helpful items. Its very hard but like the rest of the game its possible with practice. I felt it was lacking after having done 6 playthroughs of the game and THEN buying it...as it has no.purpose then.
