Ive been noticing that some of you guys are using the thumbnails the way you customize it. I am forced to use the 3 choices of thumbnail that YT gives me after processing my videos. Sometimes the best one turns out to be great and sometimes all the choices i get are ****ty so i have to cut some of the video's time to get a better thumbnail.
The reason it is important to me is because i really believe a properly placed thumbnail can capture the essence of a track all in one screenshot and would entice the viewers much more- at least thats how i see it personally.
So my question is... is there any other way i can use a thumbnail other than the 3 choices i am limited to?
Thanks.
The 3 preset thumbnails used to be at specific video frames, but YouTube changed it as people were able to basically have the partner privilege of making custom thumbnails. They're now random so unfortunately there's nothing in my knowledge you can do.![]()
If you get partnered you can choose what ever thumbnail you want.Originally Posted by Retribution
I didn't think you could have another choice other than the 3, but I found this YouTube blogger article that seems to suggest otherwise...BUT you need to be a 'partner' for this facility: http://www.youtube.com/yt/partners/
It seems you need to monetise your videos to do this, but this means ads which I am not interested in at all...
getting a partnership doesnt take long..i got mine 4 months ago now,and it took 3 days altogether, and i can use any image i want..ive also got the in video choice now too..you get some better stuff being a partner, and you dont even have to do anything except stick to the copyright rules...so simple...and worth it..
example below..
you get the option to monetise videos, but as it happens, its not all that unless you have a massive sub based channel, and they constantly watch all your vids..i only have 4 monetised to see how it worked....e.g. 2000 views, 15 subscribers within 1 month pays 50p or 80 cents...roughly calculated..it could be different for every one though..
Thanks guys. Had a feeling it would have to do with bein a partner.
Im assuming theres no way to become a nonprofit partner, having all the perks without getting my videos monetized??
@Morf- your video is actually the reason why i asked lol.
if you become a partner, which if you want the upload thumbnail, then apply to become a partner mate..your under no contract to monetise, its just you need to become the partner to monetise...
i did it for the in video perk, and for the thumbnail..i only monetised them few videos to see what could be earned.. im not bothering monetising more vids, but the option is always there..
if i was you, i would do it mate..like i say, being a partner does not mean you HAVE TO monetise..its just if you want to....its an option thats next to your settings for an uploaded video..
hope this answers your query dude..
So if i choose not to monetize any of my videos, i wont have to deal with all the ads? I can just use the upload thumbnail and leave everything else alone?
I went ahead and signed up for Youtube partner. By doing so, all my videos were enabled for monetize, so i had to go through and disable them one by one. Custom thumbnails works like a charm. Exactly what i was lookin for. Thanks again Morf.
Edit- i need to cut down on the painkillers. I could just have used the 1 click action and unmonetize them all.![]()
yeah, no worries..i know what saying about the thumbnail..it certainly gives you an edge when it stands out, similar to the thumb nail to a track...
any time man..
