    Faster Than Light (indie-game, PC)

If any of you like sim/strategy type games be sure to check out the sci-fi indi-game Faster Than Light (P.C.). It's perma-death, so each play runs from a few minutes to a couple of hours, navigating a series of randomly generated enounters. I'm still not exactly certain what this thing is, but it has burned up far more of my hours than I'd care to admit.

Here's the gamespot review for any who are curious:

    Word bro.

I burned quite a few hours up on that baby. And unlocking more ships is tricky. Love me the Mantis ship with a 4 person teleporter.

You beat it yet? Talk about effin brutal. This was my first step into the world of "rogue" -ish games. And the only other real second step I took was Spelunky...

Which is good, in a pound your fist against your head in a torturous kind of way. Final ramble: I remember seeing on the elder scrolls forums some people play what's called D.I.D.

Or, Dead Is Dead. The idea of playing a character until they die, then starting a new one. Hardcore man. Hardcore.

Imagine a Trials career where you start on the first beginner track and try to make it through all of them in a row, without EVER faulting.

Now that's HARDCORE. Too much for me, god bless the "save game" and "checkpoint" mechanic.

I'm 28-games in (and counting) and was close to winning a round, but came up short. I neglected the final ship's drive core and it warped away just before I could blow it up. I was promptly slaughtered on my second second approach, and could do nothing but watch in horror as a few hours of deliberate planning and execution was irreversibly turned to vapor.

Nice. Just making it there can be an achievement on its own.

I wish you luck, I really like the random feel it has, you never know what's coming.

It's so satisfying when you finally beat it. And there are some tricky secrets hidden in the game too.

Here's a link to the forums in case you haven't been there:

It's been a while since I was there, but the community had some interesting mods available/in the works.
