I own the game and don't mind it. It is a little slow paced and is one of those games you'll either love or hate. It's a little bit like Fallout 3, but with Zombies and not as brilliant.
I'd buy it for that price considering it's the GotY edition. Also pretty decent in co-op and am happy to do some with you if you're into that sort of thing.

my opinion, dont get it.
The controls and combat feel like your drunk as fook, the story as what ive heard and played is really messy.
its also glitchy, dull, and just boring.

if your bored of the speed and craziness of left for dead . this is for you ... slower paced .more gore and jumps ... superb world and graphics....play it coop tho ..

If you like mashing up zombies i would suggest you to get it. I enjoyed it! The only problems I had were occasional lag & the driving is awful (but i prefer to go on a zombie massacre on foot anyway.)
You can upgrade and mod your weapons (so many weapons, my favourite was the Wakizashi and in GOTY you get an arena mode which is pretty brutal. Also in GOTY you get an extra story mode but to be honest I didn't watch any cutscenes so I don't know the story.
Once you have finished the story you can go back through it carrying on with the xp you had and the zombies are around the same level as you the whole way through.
All in all I found it addictive up until completing the game 1 & 1/2 times and realising the amount of money it was costing me to repair my weapons compared to the amount of money I was finding and earning wasn't giving me enough money. I got mine from tesco for £15 a month or so back.

The game is good, exactly what D2Dahaka said, fallout with zombies but in some ways worse, the crafting and weapon looting and unique weapon finding is really fun, different classed weapons by rarity, it's a fun game if your doind all the side quests and are prepared to trek the all of the maps, my biggest problem of all is the game hindering bugs and the some what dissapointment from good trailers, L4D is funner but Dead Island offers a good world to explore and find new ways to hit or shoot a zombie.
Basically a slightly buggy zombie RPG.
