hey guys. quick question for ya. when you glue items together, the axis dont match up to the axis of the map. i rebuilt my construct following the axis of the map step by step but when i glue it all together again the axis (red, green and blue lines) go of angle again. it makes it a bit awkward putting into position. does anybody know a way to adjust the axis of a set of glued objects after it has been glued together?
by far the easiest way to do this, 1st check all snap options in the editor menu, this sets up world snapping on the planes when you double right stick click, 2nd either place a glue object in the world (double click snapped) and rebuild your object or try selecting the members (with out pivot) and double click snap them, it will probably rotate them to some weird angle but dont worry as im hoping that when you then select the whole glue object and double click again it may unrotate the odd angle and correct itself, if you can see my logic on this?
If you swithc the pivot point to manual you can snap it back to the driveline and the gluegroup will have it's axises back to normal.

oh really, damn that would be simpler.Originally Posted by stiggyhead

thanks guys but thats not quite it. if i snap it back to the driving line, the axis correct as expected but the object itself is spun into an awkward angle. what im trying to figure is adjusting the axis lines in relation to the object itself.
say i have a piece of 2x4 wood. the axis are as expected. one line up, one line up but 90 degrees to the the other, and one line set as rotation on the horizontal. if i add another piece of wood but glue them together into lets say a cross, the axis have spun to an angle as if the object/s have rotated b ut they havnt. i need to but the axis back to the correct position without rotating the object/s.
as dasraiser said i could try a glue object rather than glueing via a properties menu, but do you have any other thoughts?
That's why you have to go into the group's properties: then scroll down to pivot type, select manual, scroll to set pivot poin ,or something similar and click the right stick two timesOriginally Posted by BERTANDERNY
I'm pretty sure it would work, i'll test it to make sure i'm not stupid haha.
ahh stiggy reading that again i get you. cheers bud ill try that tomorow. its 3 in the morning and im falling asleep so ill give it a go when im awake![]()
hey guys. just thought id put this up. i sorted it. if i grouped/glued the items through the the properties the axis are thrown out. if i use the glue object from the physics object group, it lines up as expected. thanks for ya help guys. and thanks desraiser for reminding me about the glue object.
using the glue group is a good way to get around this, but something I have found out whilst using the editor is that when creating a glue group, the axis will always be based on the first object you selected, so if you wanted to do this without adding in the glue group object yourself (saves you the effort of opening the menu, scrolling through to the right place and and selecting the glue item), just make sure the first item you select in your group is one that is lined up correctly, and your glue group's pivot point will align with that item.Originally Posted by BERTANDERNY
