    Far Cry 3

Surprised there isn't already a thread on this here.

Anyone else play this hidden gem from Ubisoft?

I was on the fence for a while but decided to get it and can say I am not at all disappointed.

Also, the map editor feels close to what the next iteration of the Trials track editor should be. (simply because of the terrain editing)

That being said, I suggest picking it up for a great single player experience.

Can't say much on behalf of the Co-op and Mulitplayer, haven't done much there.

I absolutely loved playing through FC3. Weirdly enough it's almost a carbon copy of FC2 which was an utter disappointment, still haven't worked out fully what made the difference but am very glad I bought it.

farcry3 singleplayer was amazing to play through, it was visually beautiful and the story was great
but the multiplayer and co-op was a let down IMO

My opinion? Campaign is incredible, multiplayer is a joke. Okay, it's not that bad, but they tried to dumb it down, and in the process, they took away everything that made it unique, and it no longer has an original bone in its body. Regenerating health, no weapon jamming, removing vehicles. It seems yet another franchise has fallen to the generic-FPS-ification.

As for the editor? It's great. Incredible, actually. But I can't see myself making maps for such a barebones multiplayer. I'll probably just end up building shark-infested underwater labyrinths.

It sucks, because this game has so much wasted potential. The gameplay is solid, the graphics are incredible, hell, vehicles are IN the game. They're even in the editor, but someone lacked the common sense to let us use them in multiplayer maps WE make in the editor, and that's a serious blow to the longetivity of the game. In Far Cry 2 there were whole communities who just made and played race tracks in the editor. Obviously that's no longer possible.

Then there were people who made and played huge open world levels, where the purpose was simply to overcome a series of obstacles and/or traps and get to the end. Even that's made more difficult now, because I've been told you can't disable the match timer, so after half an hour, the match will end. I guess the very suggestion of letting us customize the game to our liking was idiotic.

The series always had a huge multiplayer following for its editor alone, so I don't see how they can f*** it up so badly.

    RANT OVER

I don't care about multiplayer, but so far the single player game is awesome. To me, it feels like a cross between Skyrim and RDR.

I think the map editor looks cool, but I can't see myself wanting to invest a whole lot of time into it, especially if it's multiplayer only.

I've spent what little time I can stand away from the single player campaign messing about in the editor, and there are some "single player" aspects.

You can drop in animals, and hostiles, and then test the map and battle them. I think Ubisoft still has some patches to clean up the mess though, like making it a better experience for people to share these creations.

As soon as I'm done with my current playthrough, I'm going at it again, on the hardest difficulty setting.

There's just something so satisfying about silently taking out a whole outpost.

Glad to see others here are enjoying this awesome game too.

    Re: Far Cry 3

I played it through on Hard right from the start, lasted longer than an average game..4 days-ish. Have still got some of the Notice board missions and Relics left but pretty much cleaned up everything as I played the story. Will wait to go in depth with some criticisms till everyone's finished it but I think it's the most fun I've had with any recent game release I've played.

And yeah stealthing an Outpost is fun and can be very time consuming but going Rambo on their asses with a grenade launcher and flame thrower then booby trapping the approach routes and ambushing the reinforcements is a fk'n riot
