Unable to be invited to multiplayer

originally had this in the Support area but I haven't had a single reply yet so figured I'd put it here and see if any of you lot know about this)

I have had this problem the entire time I've owned Evo. If someone invites me to play it then after a couple seconds of trying to connect it says 'Session Error' and underneath - 'Connection to host failed. Your NAT configuration might restrict you from connecting to other players.' But my NAT says OPEN at the top sooo... what?

This is pretty much the one and only problem I have with any form of online gaming on my 360. I wouldn't even really mind but now it's looking like I might be in the TETS competition and it's required that you can do this, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I saw your post but just didnt have a helpful answer for you. If your NAT is open as you say, then all I can suggest is that you go to your settings and check all of your privacy settings. If all of those are OK, then I'm afraid I really dont know what the solution could be. Sorry.

Xbox. Go to the dashboard. Go all the way to the right to settngs. Go to privacy. Then you can get to the option where you can customise all of your privacy settings. You may have your Voice and text option (under Activity) set so that you cant send or recieve game invites, messgaes or chat invites.

Also, check Family in the settings section. If that is active, it may be preventing some xbox live content.

Other than that, I really dont know what else it could be. Normally I would assume it is a NAT related issue, but that doesnt seem to be the case as it wouldnt prevent the invites being sent, it would simply cause connection issues. So all I can assume is that it relates to your xbox settings somehow.

Hope you get this sorted out though.

Re: Unable to be invited to multiplayer

Get your Xbox's Local IP Address and place it in the DMZ of your router (you can enable the DMZ only when you want to play online if you don't want it on all the time) It should be an option somewhere to enable DMZ then it will give you an area to enter an IP address, DMZ stands for DeMilitarised Zone and it means your router allows everything and anything to pass to and from that IP address without restriction (hence why you probably shouldn't leave it on all the time.),

If that doesn't help then there's a problem with your Xbox or your ISP.

It has to do with the ports on your router. Some of them may need to be opened to play with other people in other continents and even states. It's just a +1 OF dumbA$$ Xboxs downside.

u may find that ure NAT is open due to the fact u have "upnp" enabled on ure router, however as stated this doesnt necessarily mean that all the needed ports are open. Ure best of checking ure router and forwarding the ports manually yourself and not relying on upnp.

have a read of the link below + the comments so it makes sense to u

    http://compnetworking.about.com/b/20...-xbox-live.htm

However if its any comfort to you, i also experience online probs with this game & i dont with any other game i own .... a proportion of the probs are down to the MS servers imo.

Agreed, MS servers can't connect everybody unfortunately

Just scroll down the list on the link and find your router. It's really easy and they explain how to open ports on your router.

    http://www.portforward.com/english/r...outerindex.htm

If your NAT is "strict" or "moderate" when you test your Xbox Live connection, opening these ports on your router will give you an "open" NAT next time you run a test.

    UDP 53
    UDP 88
    UDP 3330
    UDP 3074
    TCP 3074

If you don't play through a router/gateway and your NAT isn't open then you need to contact your ISP.

You can also see problems if your friend has a moderate or closed NAT.
