Will the maps be cross compatible? I am guessing there wont be much difference between them..

Redlynx have or are looking into it. Whether it'll happen is still unknown. Personally, Id prefer they let us at least have the option of making maps that let us go wild on the pc and are not limited by the 360s restrictions, but at the same time let us have the option to build within the 360s constraints. The problem is though, even with the same restrictions as 360, your high end pc may run a map smoothly that could still lag on 360 so im not optimistic we'll see cross compatibility. The other problem is, without restrictions some maps wont even run consistently across various PCs - its a tough balance and no perfect solution exists.

Well either way I'm going to be buying it, but all the info I can get before hand is useful

    Re: Custom maps cross compatible?

    Finally...

2 things would be awesome in the PC version:

    1)
Xbox360 compatibility mode in the editor, allowing your tracks you've created within those constraints to be published (either instantaneously or by syncing them at a certain time each month) on both Xbox360's and PC's Track Central.
I don't see a problem with low performance here - I mean some tracks created on Xbox360 have pretty bad performance (sometimes this is a MP-only problem though) and those didn't get nuked off the 360's Track Central... .
This ball should be in RedLynx's court for letting maps which are above the 360's computational capabilities happen in the first place, even when they're created on this very system.

Since I don't know how robust a track-save file (or if there even is one created prior to uploading the track, could be that it's in the RAM only at first for exactly those security reasons) will be against tampering via other means than the Track Editor (hex editor etc. comes to mind), a strict online verifying system should be in place as PC gamers tend to be a crafty bunch.
I guess no one - be it PC or Xbox360 - would like to see his system crash and burn because some self-proclaimed comedian overloaded his map with more particle effects, explosions and physics than allowed in the in-game editor.

    2)
Xbox360 Track Central maps getting converted automatically to PC maps and published in PC's Track Central (maybe with a mark indicating it came from the 360 along with the Gamertag of the original creator), again either instantaneously or by syncing in certain time intervals (every 1, 7, 10, 20 or hell even 30 days would be fine).

    2 other features however shouldn't be cross-platform:
Leaderboards (obviously) and Track Ratings (Stars, download counter, etc.)

I think there have only been three titles to ever be cross-platform on Xbox and PC (Shadowrun, Universe at War, and Lost Planet).

maybe if it gave you option to run at a lower spec on the xbox when playing pc customs. you get this option on the pc usually. Would be even better if the xbox did this automaticaly with option for manual changes as well. Being able to lower the spec might help in multiplayer situations as well

Those titles feature cross platform-gameplay, a feature Microsoft doesn't seem to be fond of (one reason could be input methods, since PC allows for more precision) lately.

I doubt many are expecting for RedLynx to implement this particular feature - for starters it could lead to some pretty unfair matches when the 360 is chugging on a level while PC gamers cruise through with 120 fps.

Syncing/converting tracks between the two Track Centrals is most likely easier done in comparison.
Even if it's just a one way street (360->PC, if MS is so afraid of any outside-data incoming to XBoxLive or in case the PC editor doesn't offer a 360-compatibility mode), it would offer a tremendous foundation of custom maps to play on right at release with later syncs to ensure currentness.
