Hello,
I have a question about a technique I see used frequently on more difficult tracks.
Usually I see this done when the rider is attempting to scale a steep incline, but doesn't have enough momentum to make it all the way over. The front tire will land on top, with the back tire approximately level with the front, but without any support under the back wheel (it's hanging in space).
At this point, the rider appears to be holding down the accelerator and feathering the brake. Done properly, the front wheel remains locked in place, but the rear tire pulls up. Once the rear tire is high enough, the rider can shift their weight to bring the entire bike down onto the top of the structure.
I can do something similar with enough momentum and *just* the brake by simply holding the brake and letting my momentum swing my back tire up. However, without enough momentum the technique described above is required.
This technique seems required for some of the ninja tracks, and would come in very handy on a lot of the extreme tracks.
I have tried and tried to do this, but I cannot seem to make it happen. *sigh*.
I have a few questions:

1. Am I doing it wrong? Have I described the technique incorrectly?
2. If I have the general idea right, any suggestions on what I might be missing? Feathering the brake too quickly? Not quickly enough?
3. Lastly, if there are any Youtube tutorials that teach how to do this, or locations where you think I should practice this, please let me know.[/list:u:3p8o8zwr]
You can see what I'm describing here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...XUAq5N9Y#t=33s ("Tough Mudder", approximately 33 seconds in [the link goes directly the point in the video I'm describing])
You can also see it in the same video, a few moments later (about 46 seconds in): http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...XUAq5N9Y#t=46s
Thanks everyone!
Land on front wheel, hold RT and spam x at the same time. Also lean forward.
ConfusedMuscles: thanks!
That's what I've been trying to do but it hasn't been working. Obviously you can't see what I'm doing, but for anyone that has learned how to do this recently, do you think maybe I'm not spamming the brake fast enough? I assume you keep the accelerator floored the entire time, right? That's what it looks like on the replays.
I'm probably just not doing it fast enough. I'll have to give it a bit more practice.
Thanks!
Keep accelerator held down the whole time. Your back wheel must be above 45 degrees for this technique to work. If back wheel is below that it won't work, unless forward momentum is already pushing you forwars some. You need to spam pretty fast. Mastering this technique will help you with so many things.
iamamish, are you actually using X or the LT?
because, for this technique, it's way easier to spam X than it is LT. so use the LT the rest of the time if you want, but make sure you use X for this technique.
you just need practise. when you get it it's dead useful...
I do this with LT and it works fine. I think you might need a bit more practice as you describe the technique fine.
i just aint quick enough on the LT...Originally Posted by Skag
I use X it's more convenient and can be tapped faster.
I recently learnt this technique and the best way imo would be to watch the top replays of ninjas on TC. Find a spot where it is being done and keep an eye on the bottom right corner where it shows the button presses/movement. Then go and practice it on either inferno or WOTN as there are a few spots on them where it can be practiced.
I personally use LT but I think my left trigger finger may be stronger than normal from my Guitar Hero stint a while back. Either continue using LT and build up strength in that finger, or start using X as your right thumb is probably stronger than left index.
To really nail it I spent some time just practicing getting into that position and then balancing on the front tire using a combo LT and forward lean. After nailing that I changed my practice slightly to include moving from balancing on the from tire to bouncing onto the back tire and bunny hopping forward.
To be fair, after learning this technique I started to dial in my extreme runs and now have some platinums and some really low faults, 1 on inferno well within platinum time. Good luck with it pal.
Couple useful things to know about this technique -
One is that the faster you spam X/LT the better it works, which is why I would never suggest using the LT because I've been able to press X like a wood****** sometimes and you'd be amazed at what you can recover, and I find it hard to believe someone could press the LT that fast.
Also, and this should be pretty obvious but still, make sure you're doing it as soon as your front tyre is on the object 'cos it generally only works as long as your back tyre is still heading upwards (although you can actually get it recover when its heading downwards but I wouldn't think about that for now anyway).
Another thing I only noticed the other day on the first checkpoint of Bahamut, and it should have been kinda obvious really but I'd never thought about it, is that the harder you spam X (like the actual physical aspect of pressing the button in with a lot of force) will make the bike 'kick' up a bit harder. I can't really think of any time that knowing this would be particularly useful outside of the particular technique I realised it on (which is being stationary on an object on the front tyre and trying to nudge it up onto another slightly-raised object), but there you go.
