    Hi. I'm Dan, and...

    I'm an alcoholic.

Today, I am 6 months sober. May 4th was the last time I drank, and it was the end of a long ~7 years of addiction, and a new beginning in my life.

I have kept this "secret" until now for the most part as it's not something I am proud of, and I was scared of people judging me for my past. Over the past 6 months, I have worked hard to stay clean, and now I need to embrace it. I am, and always will be, an alcoholic.

The reason I am posting this now, isn't for everyone to congradulate me on my progress, but to encourage anyone that has any issues, or thinks that they may be an alcoholic, to do something about it. I have wondered if there are others on here that have gone/are going through the same thing, and I guess I just want to say that it gets better if you want it to. I am far from being totally away from temptation, especially with such a booze-centric society where every other billboard or commerial references alcohol, but I am on the right path. I was on my way to losing a lot, but things are much better now, and I can't deny that I am pretty proud of how far I have come.

I'm not sure if this post is going to fall on deaf ears or not, but I am glad I finally am getting this off my chest and out in the open, and I hope that maybe it could help someone out.

    Thanks for reading,
    -Dan

P.S. I know I rarely have a serious post on here anymore, so I will conclude with a joke.

Why does a seagull fly over the sea?
Because if it flew over the bay it would be called a bagel!

    Good luck mate, stay strong.
There's many people with that problem, I was "borderline" when I was younger, I have friends and family members who are alcoholics , it ruins their / relatives lives big way.
    I'm "only" addicted to videogames...and that's enough

Kudos to you for your "coming out" , it's the right path...

Cheers Dan! I am glad to hear it. 6 months is huge! We have talked a little bit in the past on this subject, but yeah, I have been through a lot of what you are going through. I am always here. Shoot me a PM any time you wanna chat about anything.

My 5 year mark is coming up soon.

    You're inspiring

Not completely relevant but I chew tobacco and I believe Nicotine is the second most addictive "Drug" on the planet. I try to quit but I end up throwing a dip in a week later.

Way to go there Dan. Also to any others who have tamed there demons. Can I ask a question though without sounding rude or insensitive. I have a beer or two some nights (as some of u know) so how or what level do u class as an alcoholic. Im sorry if this sounds dumb and tasteless, in no way is it ment to be, just asking if maybe I drink to much!

Once again though, well done all.
