Adding Pegs to the BMX bike? SOLVED & Track Uploaded!

    Hey Guys,

It's been a real long time since I've played due to going back home for the summer. I got back to school, fixed up my Xbox Live connection and saw there was DLC for the game with a BMX bike.

It's been a long time since I tried anything in the editor so maybe I am missing something basic, but I am not able to get pegs on the BMX bike.

I am using a simple steel pole through the dropouts of the bike frame (middle of wheels) and then using an object position event to make the pegs move with the bike. I have all the positions set up fine and this works, however the pegs seem to 'float' around a lot since the whole BMX bike seems to be held together by springs.

Does anyone know how to fix this and get the pegs to stay in one location, fixed, without wobbling around when the frame suspension kicks in?

    Thanks in advance,

    Mike

hmmm have you tried maybe having it follow the position of a dummy instead which follows the springs?

You could try a point to point physics joint and use a different object so it doesnt go "through" the bike?

    Thanks for the replies guys.

I tried the dummy object to no avail, but the physics joint did sort of work.

The only object I could find that didn't look ridiculous was a rear suspension part in car parts. Using a point to point join allowed this thing to follow the bike almost flawlessly, but then it was too weak to actually stay on any rail.

I ran into a track where this concept seems to be done flawlessly called BMX PARK by JOno X360.

Ill keep trying I guess. Thanks again for the help, any additional input is appreciated.

OPE's negate any physics/collision objects have..so OPE would not work for pegs, point to point physics joints set to hard with joint strength 50 should work fine...

Use a strong point to point physics joint, and make sure you connect the peg to the frame of the bike, and not the wheel as you may end up with the peg spinning so fast it starts going through objects, and colliding with the frame.

    Hey guys,

I do have the joint set to 'hard' and to a strength of 50; but still if I land on a 'rail' the peg just bends and snaps through it.

I have the joint connected to both the wheel and the frame, because if I only do one, I can't check the 'Avoid collision' think?) box which allows the peg to 'collide' with the wheel and the frame. If I only connect the peg to the frame, it collides with the wheel.

I think part of the reason for the collision is that the suspension part that I am using as a peg has a really awkward location in the object rotate bubble. I think the centre of the bubble is the centre of a car; which would help properly position the suspension if you're putting it on a car. However, this means the actual object is way off centre when you bring it into the game.

Also, I realized after a decent amount of work that the OPE doesn't allow collision... I hate learning the hard way; I should have checked this thread sooner haha.

Thanks again, Ill post if I get it working.

when working with an object that has an odd pivot point like the suspension pieces you can create a glue group with the suspension piece and a dummy object. Once it is part of a glue group you can manually move the pivot point to a more appropriate location like the center of the suspension piece.

you don't even need a dummy object do you? You can just get the Object Glue item from in the items list and open its properties, select objects, and select only the suspension piece, then set the pivot where you like.

Good point. I know that object glue item can be really useful but for some reason I never use it.
