    Struggling to Build a Track

So here is the situation, every time I finish a track, it takes me along time to began building a new track that I will actually finish. Pretty much, this is what happens, I finish making a track and then I try about ten different ideas for a track till I finally have a good track. Most of the tracks that I start, I don't get past building the first obstacle, before starting over, and sometimes I just lay down a line and then start again. So I am wondering, how do some of you come up with tracks so quickly. Personally, I only have 4 tracks, where others have 50. Now I don't want to be building a new track and releasing it every week. But I wish it didn't take me a month just to get an idea, I am happy to build for 2 months. So, what tips do you have for getting creative. Maybe some of you could go through your building process, including the conceptualization of your idea.

I wish I could help, but I'm in the same boat. I have 6 released tracks, and about 10 unfinished. I just get bored so easily.

My unfinished tracks are pretty far along, I just haven't got it in me to finish some of them off and it turns into a chore rather than a pleasure.

i only have 6 tracks but i spend a month or 2 on each. your best bet imo for making a track is to come up with a theme 1st and then start building a track and line to that theme. if you build something for the line that you dont like just scrap it and start again but keep the theme and once you have a couple of checkpoints built your track will start coming together nicely. it helps to build background scenery from the start cos this can give you ideas for what sort of obstacles to use for the line and as you go along keep adding background scenery that fits the theme you will soon be hooked on making and completing this track.

it also helps to have a list of different themes for future tracks

also for most of my tracks i often sketch out some ideas 1st or as i go along, like ideas for background scenes and obstacles etc and i always begin a track by spending a lot of time setting the environment colours and settings before actually building anything although often i will alter this halfway through a track but it helps to enspire what you build if you have a nice environment set up first

I do exactly the same, I have so many half built tracks and even a couple of almost finished ones, I don't know how people manage to make so many tracks. It takes me at least a couple of weeks to a month to build just one track once I have an idea I like enough to stick with.

The idea I have in my head, I just cant manage to get it into the game the way I imagined it looking and so I decide that if it doesn't look and play like I had hoped, then it's not done.

i think everyone gets a creative block with the editor from time to time, and it can be frustrating.
you can either wait it out... or try and push through it - listening to music, playing other peoples work and even watching films can help get your creative mojo back.
just make sure when the inspiration finally comes to you, you make the most of it

Thanks heet. My last 2 tracks were 3 months apart though, this editor has slowed me down a lot compared to the one in HD. I feel it takes a lot longer cause I am trying to make a cohesive environment. In HD it felt more like putting random objects together to make it look cool, if that makes sense... I dont know... forgot my train of thought...
I think this quote pretty much sums up my feelings about track creating.

This problem plagues me too. I find inspiration to start something all the time, but finishing takes serious thought and effort, plus I like to make things complicated, which doesn't help haha. I have 3 projects 80% finished, and they will likely never get done.

Best of luck to you and your creative endeavors
