Do you play your own tracks, and if so, when and how well?

So I released my latest track last night, and three hours later it was off the bottom of the 'newest tracks' list, but hadn't turned up on the 'best of 48 hours' list. Not unusual - my last track was only completed by four people - so I had a go at it myself and posted a pretty good time - which put me at the top of the leaderboard as only one other person had done it faultlessly.

Anyway, I go to check up on it this morning to find I have a message from someone saying, and I quote, "It's gay to post the best time on your own track." Nice. I find that my track is now in the 'best of 48 hours' list.

So (at last), my question(s): do you play your own tracks? Do you play them immediately and well, or do you leave it a while and then have a go? Do you purposefully not play them faultlessly so as not to look too egocentric?

    What is the etiquette here?!

Don't listen to that person. It's not egocentric to post your best time on your own track. If you happen to be good enough at your track to claim the #1 spot, then go for it.
Is it an unfair advantage that you've spent days playing the track already? Sure, but it's all in good fun anyway. If somebody is good enough, they'll still be able to beat your score. It's not like you're taking something away from the person in second place when they can't beat your #1 time. If there were some kind of cash prize or something for claiming the #1 spot, then that would be different. I like seeing the creator's best time on the leaderboards, comparing my time to theirs, seeing what techniques they used, etc.

i always play my own tracks, i don't get the top spot or if i do i don't have it for long cos i have 2 very good riders on my friends list that always get a sick time on my tracks but i am usually in the top 5 and i completely disagree with the childish idiot who msgd you. i feel that when you share a track you should try to do a very good run on it straight away as this will give your track a top replay for every1 to watch showing where the flow line is and the best routes etc. also a lot of people just download a track and immediately watch the top replay to see how good the track is so i feel it is a good idea to have a top run up there as soon as its shared to increase the chances of it being played. plus its just a novelty thing - when your friends get your track they want to see how well you can ride it and see if they can beat you its all part of the game, just ignore the little childish response and play how you feel like playing

Oh, thank heavens for that! Thanks guys, it's good to know others do the same!

I am by no means the best rider - on my giga track I played my best and still got beaten by 15 seconds and put down to 11th so I know people can beat me! I didn't do that run straight off the bat, though.

I always thought it would be good to show people that it is possible - certainly in harder tracks.

Maybe we track creators see it differently to people who just play them, but I'm glad we're on the same page! Thanks guys!

After I spend days (or weeks, RainSlick) on a track I can honestly say that I don't usually want to compete on it. But if you do, then do it.

I typically try to wait a few days before even playing so someone else has a chance to find the optimal line without just watching my replay. Sometimes people do things that you hadn't expected.

My routine is almost always the same; Upon release, I go for a nice run that is some way ahead of just a normal platinum run, then I leave it for hours and when I come back, I've always been beaten. Many times, other players have come up with tricks I didn't intend for. I've never taken a #1 spot back on my own tracks, some people are just too good.

I think I'm in the top10 on all my tracks though, or very close at least.

I always play my own tracks and (try to) get platinum. I have the #1 spot on a couple of my tracks but I don't make it a point to be #1. Nothing wrong with getting a good run on a track you create. At least others can view the replay to see how it's done.

I play my tracks to get a good enough run to record. Sometimes I try and take back the number 1 spot, but usually I dont like playing my own track for more than a day or 2. I spend way more time playing other players track than I do on my own.

I play through my tracks to get a faultless run just so that if anyone gets stuck there is a replay in there they know they can watch to see how it's done, but I don't go in there trying to set the fastest time I can, just a clean run.
