    What makes a good track?

Hey lads! So i am definitly not the best track creator, but i really want to get better. So, if you expert track creators can give any tips of what makes a good track in your opinion, that would be EXCELLENT! Thanks!

    I look for 4 things:

    - Good driving line, obviously

    - The theme must be well-made and it must either be completely original, or an original take on a generic theme. For example, I would be fine with a factory track as long as it looked unique

    - The theme must somehow be incorporated into the driving line. Too many times I see that the driving line is composed of one object and is completely separated from the theme.

    - No violations of basic track design. No lag, no bad camera angles, good medal times, etc.

First and foremost... you need explosions and bright lights.

If that doesnt seem your style, A few other things I like in a track.

    1. Play with a risk vs. reward system. The fastest route should be the hardest to pull off, slower routes are generally more safe. I prefer tracks to be more subtle about it, designing a track with a fast upper and slow lower route is contrived and too easy to do.

    2. I think visuals are important. Many people will argue with me on this, but I still feel they matter. Take your time and try to create a believable environment. At the very least, try to keep a very general them. Meaning, if everything in the track is made of wooden planks and wooden beams, a huge concrete structure may not fit in...

    3. Lag/slowdown/screen tear is bad!

    4. Accurate medal times are good, probably more important to the enjoyment of others than you may think.

    5. Try to keep every obstacle in the same ballpark as far as difficulty. An extreme obstacle in the middle of a medium track WILL get complaints. I've seen it.

    6. My personal opinion, but loop-de-loops are overused and not as cool as people think they are as they build them. Same goes for the backflip up onto a ledge above you, its in like 80% of the tracks out there. Originality is a plus!

    7. My brain stopped working, I know there are plenty more..

    edit... what buttcheek said basically
