I played SD for about 3 years and finally made the leap to HD a bout year ago...I will never go back! The TV you're using should give a fantastic picture (Mine's a cheap 'en!), and in all honesty your eyes will not tell the difference between a £1.50 HDMI cable and a £20 Official one.

Also about the WiFi; I'm using WiFi on my connection (60Mbps) but I'm in an upstairs bedroom while the router is downstairs but it's generally fine. The only issues I'm having at the moment are with the ISP itself, not the connection from the Xbox to the Router. As an IT Technician I would say use a cable if you're near you access point, as wireless is always slower.
