The web chat has been totally renewed. We now have Mibbit, which can be used to connect to our IRC server. By default it has two channels, #redlynx and #trials2.

You can also use your own IRC client, such as mIRC or Irssi. The server is irc.redlynxtrials.com

Any feedback will be appreciated.

I've already been informed that there are still many things to be done in the look and feel part of the new chat.

However let me say here that so far noone likes its appearence and people have been complaining about it. So better make the changes fast.

The previous chat's appearence was a perfect fit for the forum. I'd prefer to see the new one looking exactly the same.


Useful tip:
You can connect to the new chat in many different ways, using an IRC client like hexchat, chatzilla (needs firefox), mirc and others.
In all cases, regardless of each program's menus and options, type [code:19qbenv7]/server irc.redlynxtrials.com[/code:19qbenv7] to connect to the irc server and then type [code:19qbenv7]/join #redlynx[/code:19qbenv7] to join the channel.

Good Tutorial, but mine's better:


Step 1: Get the not free IRC client XChat from http://xchat.org/windows/grab-289.png OR get Hexchat which is free and EXACTLY the same http://www.hexchat.org/home/downloads

Step 2:: Install it and start it.

Step 3: You are going to see a tab with Nickname/Network informations. You will choose your own nickname behind the "Nick Name", "Second Choice", "Third Choice" field which is then later used in the chat. Second Choice and Third Choice is there because if someone else with your name is connected to the server it will choose the Second Choice as your nickname. On other IRC server there is a feature called NICKSERV which prevents other user from using your nickname but we don't have that.


That's the tab that should open automaticly when starting xchat. This picture is for Step 3 and 4.

Step 4: Hit the "Add" button and choose yourself a name for your new network. After you did that hit Edit.

Step 5: You hit Edit again and type in "irc.redlynxtrials.com/6667" where it currently still says "newserver/6667".

You also checkmark those following points: "Connect to selected server only" and "Auto connect to this network at startup".

In the "Favorite Channels" field you type "#redlynx".



It should look like the picture above. You can now close that tab.


Step 6: You should now be in the first menu (the same as in the first picture) and you are ready to hit the "Connect" button. There will be another option which I currently can't see But you choose the second one and type in #redlynx again. This should auto connect you to the channel.




TL;DR: /server irc.redlynxtrials.com /join #redlynx
