Do something about the quitting please RL!!

    srsly.

it's an epidemic. i never get through a 4 man race on the MP now without somebody quitting. so many people quit when they aren't going to win it's unreal. people quit afer a track they hate is selected as well. or they quit during the final track countdown with 1 second before the race results.

is it right that the result doesn't count if someone quits out? or is it the riders who stay get less points than they would?

i've started this thread and i've just realised i don't even know if there's an option to quit in-game, cos i've literally never quit. my daughter turned off my xbox once while i've been playing (maybe twice?) but i've never even tried to pause the MP, let alone quit like a cowardly custard. so are people having to dashboard or is there an option to quit in the pause menu? if there's an option to quit then this needs removing in the next patch.

or some sort of points punishment for quitters would be better than the current situation. the MP is bad enough as it is, with it's "look i'm higher than you because i've played more" leaderboards, but the quitting is spiralling out of control now.

although its never, ever gonna happen.. i honestly think the best thing for online multiplayer would be to completely remove the leaderboards.
add an extra 'multiplayer stats' page aswell as the one we already have, that friends can see... but do away with the global mp boards.

they mean absolutely nothing other than who has most playtime, and not even that in some cases. theyre just pointless incentives for idiots to keep quitting out.
without the leaderboards, the incentive would switch primarily to gaining xp.. and quitting would just mean ranking up more slowly.
of course people would still quit a lot, you cant change that.
Trials is a competitive and frustrating game, but making someone rage-quit is far more satisfying than them quitting out just to spite you for being better than them, knowing they are not being punished for it.

aye it's the lack of punishment which does my nut. i'm big on punishment

i just don't get quitters. it's something i'll never understand. i never quit in games. i've been 6-0 down in FIFA and not quit, cos you don't learn anything by quitting.

that saying, quitters never win and winners never quit is so true.

look at Andy Murray eh! he could of gone "you know what, i've lost 4 Grand Slam finals and i'm a multi-millionaire so screw this, i'm gonna beach myself like a whale in Barbados". but nah he's a fighter and now a champ

A lot of people just don't like to lose, simple as that. If you actually are as honorable as you say, that's great, but to say you just don't understand quitters at all seems a little nearsighted.

I have to agree with ben1bob. If you have a habit of quitting, it'll slow your progress since you won't be learning those lessons you need to learn. On top of that, whatever rank you're "earning" is meaningless. I mean, nobody likes to lose, but the silver lining there is actual experience.

the problem is that those who stay get punished if someone leaves

This has come up a few times and even with all my lurking I've still not seen an official reply.. its the number one thing spoiling MP imo.

I'm pretty sure quite a few have done the 'avoid player' thing because it got to the point where I was hardly getting a game with any of the top ranked MP players. I am by no means very good (global ranking in the top 2k) but people were quitting on me all the time. It just became no fun anymore.

However, I still need to feed my addiction so i just started using another gamertag and only really play HC trials. The quitting doesn't seem so bad on there. (probably coz I'm crap at HC and don't give people a reason too, haha)

As people have said before there needs to be a penalty for quitting. I'm sure there must be a way to differentiate between quitting and losing connection. If it can't be done in this game please redlynx do something about it for the next version of trials!

I agree. Quitting should have a punishment, and you should actually get MORE xp for making someone quit than if you just beat them. Also, all multiplayer games' ranking systems are now based on how much you play, not how good you are. From COD to Halo Reach to every other competitive multiplayer game, all you have to do to rank up is play, a lot. The only game I can think of that had a true ranking system was Halo 3. In Halo 3, when you won against people higher than you, you got more xp than if they were lower, and if you lost to a lower rank, you got more xp TAKEN AWAY than if you lost to someone ranked higher than you. This made it so you could go down in rank. That, my friends, is awesome. I am rank 40 in Halo 3, because I'm not good enough to be 41, and I'm better than 39. Take a page from their book Redlynx. Also, with that true skill ranking system, rank 40s got teamed with other rank 40s, or anyone from rank 30 to 50(assuming you set connections for 'skill' and not 'connection'), but the beauty is that if you are rank 40, and playing another 40, you know that you guys are actually on the same skill level, and you know you're not just playing someone who played for six months straight so they could have a high rank. I hope this made sense, and I would definitely like to see the xp system get overhauled as well as MASSIVE punishments for quitting. Halo Reach gives you a warning once you quit five times, and then if you quit again you get BANNED for ten minutes, but I think it should be a whole day. When people quit it ruins the game for everyone. I think I'm done ranting. Thanks for this thread!

From what I have experienced that is not exactly right, no. If you win a multiplayer tournament and there are 4 riders in it until the end then you get more XP points than if there were only 3. So if someone quits out of the game, your result counts and you still get XP but you don't get as much. If all the other riders quit and you are the only one who finishes the tournament you still get some XP but it is not very much.

I don't look at the leaderboard rankings at all for MP, I don't have a clue where I am, whether I'm 1st or 1,000,000th. I don't really pay much attention to rank either. I've been soundly beaten by riders ranked way below me 'm level 41) and I've had guys continually quit on me who are ranked above me. They don't show anything of any bearing except how much time you've played online, you can't decipher someones skill level from their rank though you would imagine someone ranked in the 40's+ should be half decent with the amount of time they've played but I've seen riders ranked 40+ still trying to get over the first Inferno 3 obstacle on the Scorpion when I've finished so they obviously haven't learned anything from all their time online!

The best way to play multiplayer in my opinion is to party up with friends and have some fun, that's where this mode really excels.
