Scientists are perpetually seeking knowledge, truth, and new truths. They want to share their discoveries, and are more than willing to admit when they're wrong, or that there's just a chance they're wrong. To me, people that are all about truth would not, for any reason other than personal or familial threat, lie to the public. So yea, its fact.
