Well if you are a civilian like myself, you have to enlist into the Navy as any rating. You have to tell the recruiter you want to be a SEAL and you take the ASVAB exam, C-sort, and a PST (Physical Screening Test). The PST consists of running, swimming, push-ups, pull-ups, and sit-ups. You have to score optimum scores on that to get a SEAL contract. If you do, your rating will be changed to SO and you will get a shipdate to go to bootcamp. Bootcamp is 8 weeks, then followed by BUD/s Prep. School which will get you in better shape for BUD/s the actual SEAL training. Prep. School is between 5-8 weeks. At the end there you take an even harder PST. BUD/s stands for Basic Underwater Demolition SEAL Training. It is 6 months long and only around 20-25% pass. It is divided into 3 phases. The 4th week in 1st phase is called Hell Week. It is 5.5 days of misery. You literally get as most as 4 hours of sleep that whole entire time. I won't go into details. After completion of BUD/s you go to Jump School for 3 weeks, then 6 months of SEAL Qualification Training (SQT) and SERE. If you complete all of this you are then awarded the SEAL Trident which will designate you as a SEAL then you are sent to the SEAL Teams. If you have any questions or even care just ask. Also, let's not compare Special Operations Forces from different countries.
