How the singleplayer leaderboards work?

Hi, just signed up to the forum to ask this question so this may be in the wrong section.

I was wondering how the Leaderboards for singleplayer worked and how score is calculated?
Currently I am ranked 7 thousand and something and have gotten a platinum medal on something like 50 out of 57 tracks on singleplayer, but when I go to look at my current position on the leaderboards, there is people with more score than me who have gold and silver medals for the hard and medium tracks?

Thanks for the help

A person's medal level does not at all represent what their rank is.

First of all, it does not take tournaments into account, which can make a massive difference in your rank.

Consider this situation:

A person has platinum on 6 out of 7 extreme tracks, but has bronze on the last one. They would show a bronze medal.
Another person has gold on all 7 extreme tracks. They would show a gold medal.

The first person would have WAY more points than the second person, due to the fact that they 0 faulted six tracks while the second person did not 0 fault any of them.

Score calculation is pretty simple if you are trying to raise your rank. Faults are the most important thing. 0 faulting a level will give you like 95% of the points available on that level, even if your time is terrible. So 0 fault everything first, and then work on improving your times.

Ohhhh, I will work on 0 Faulting my remaining tracks then.
Thank you so much for the detailed response, I appreciate it.

Just to give an example, once when I checked, taking 18 seconds off the wreck from an already platinum but obviously slow run moved me like 10 positions, which at my rank is basically nothing, even though it was almost 1/3 time off my run which is huge. Going from 2 faults to 0 with a mediocre time on another track was around 150 position increase.

There's a thread some where with a score calculation spreadsheet as well.
That can help you improve.

taking time off the Extremes isn't really worth the effort as it gives so few points, so just try and 0 fault them. if you can take time off the other tracks then do that.

here's the link to the most useful spreadsheet you'll ever find. you'll be amazed when you're filling in the "what if" column. taking 5 minutes off a 0 fault Test Your Might run is basically not worth it!

but go to GrantR's 2nd post on this page and get the spreadsheet from there : viewtopic.php? f=77&t=9676&start=30

why wasn't it made a sticky i wonder?!
