    Screen tearing

Recently it cropped up in a conversation that me and a mate are running different TV setups and have noticed more/less tearing on some tracks. So I thought it would be interesting to see how other people feel about this. If you have the chance to to do this, run a track with some screen tearing and then get a mate to run it using a different set up.

For example, I run 1080i and dont notice some of the tearing my mate does who is running 1080p. So if you can replicate this test I'd be interested to know if you feel this is the case for you as well.

    Re: Screen tearing

I think 1080p does show it up more...i recently played a game called dragons dogma and people were complaining about serious screen tearing and the only way to reduce it was discovered to be changing your settings to 720p. That might be the case with evo too? I started to wonder about this recently myself so im interested to see how this poll works out. Maybe someone can be bothered to change their settings and test it (to be honest i cant )

I play in 720p and notice a lot of user created tracks that have screen tear.

I wonder if its the progressive scan compared to the interlaced that does it then?

I dont know man. I will say that I notice screen tear shows up very easily for me. Usually if I have 1 dynamic light with my headlights on it will pop up its ugly head in my tracks. That is why I use so many pin lights and wall lights in my tracks. I may check and see if switching to 1080i makes a difference, I stay in 720p cause it works better with my capture card...

If it does effect things, it might explain why some tracks have so much (the maker cant see it all) and why some people see it when others dont. It would explain why we see people mentioning tearing and others disagreeing about it. I may have to switch back to 720p if thats the case to try and make sure I can minimise any tearing in any tracks I make.

    Re: Screen tearing

I get screen tearing and ive got a standard CRT Tv, It`s more down to how the levels are made within the game.

If there a lot of objects placed on the screen at one time, this is when it happens, it happened to me when i made the loop n things track, with the cars at teh start, if i placed too many around as extra decorations it would cause tears n lagg sometimes too even tho the track complexity wasnt even near the halfway mark

    Re: Screen tearing

No, I understand screen tearing. But there have been several instances recently where I have seen people disagree about some screen tearing. So clearly one person sees it and one doesnt. I'm wondering (after a recent conversation) wether these instances are because the progressive scan highlights tearing more often than the interlaced scan. If so, then it stands to reason that people running interlaced are more likely to upload a track with some tearing as they simply cannot see it, but only those running progressive will notice it.

    Its a conundrum! lol

I think it changes per person because of the speed you ride the track, a faster rider is more demanding on the CPU than a slower one because it has to render the track faster.
