I'm not a top rider by any means, I can do extremes but not zero fault them. I can zero fault a lot of hards, but not all of them. So thats my kind of rider skill level.
I sometimes feel like tracks that have good replayability dont always get the rewards they deserve. Sometimes a track is bumpy and awkward to get through the first few times but has a really good flow once you find it. But I feel a lot of people (sometimes I have no doubt I am also at fault with this) wont find that flow before deciding they dont like the track and giving it a lower rating than it deserves. Maybe 3 or 4 stars instead of 5 for example.
A perfect example for me personally is a track I recently replayed. NorfaiR76 has a Hard track in the RL feed called Rigel station. I often felt the track didnt have great flow. But having replayed it recently, I actually chose it as a HLC track because I found the flow and realised the qualities that the line had. But I really hadnt been very keen on the track up until I reran it the other day. Since the HLC started I have heard other people say they arent sure about the track as it a bit bumpy and doesnt flow. But other better riders found the flow straight away and enjoyed it.
Now to be clear, I'm saying that the track is very good and has replay value for a lot of people. Its an easy track to finish but a really tough track to master for the more average riders (like myself). Which makes for a really good hard track imo. But its rating isnt amazingly high. I just wonder how often this happens to a track on TC and is it because it takes a little work to be able to thoroughly enjoy the tracks good points?
This is purely a random musing but I wanted to see if other people feel this is something that they agree with or wether I am way off base.
Tracks these days are microwave food. There's an endless stream of new, good, tracks being released, so I don't blame anyone for not playing through a certain track as much as it "deserves". And what it deserves is in the eye and mind of the beholder anyway.
It's true what you say about taking the time with a track though. In Trials 2 SE we only had 62 tracks. Since 2008. No editor, no patches and no DLC, none of that, just 62 tracks straight up. If you wanted a good global rank, you had to learn every track and get at least a decent rank on it.
And you know what, 90% of all tracks have something good about them, and you'll find it if you play them enough. There were really only 2 tracks in T2SE that I never liked no matter how much I played them (and both were physics based).
It's all about taking the time with something. If you nail a certain track that you don't really like, you'll feel better about it. Like someone said when asked about his favorite tracks, "I like them all when I do well, and hate them all when I don't"
But in today's Trials, a lot of good stuff goes unnoticed and that's a bit unfortunate, but that's the downside of having such a good game where you have thousands of good tracks at your disposal at any time. I do agree though that you should always try to take your time with tracks, although I know I don't always follow that advice myself..
I think we're in the minority tbh. The vast majority of players dl'ing and rating tracks probably only ever play them 5 times max. I'm not the best player so if I want good runs it usually takes me many, many tries to make them. It was like that for me in HD and it's exactly what I expected and welcomed in Evo. Finding the flow of a track and nailing it is what it's all about on Easy-Extreme for me, and I assume for most of us that have been posting here since HD.
The majority though...quick fix and onto the next one. It's easy to understand how some top track creators become disheartened when their hard work gets buried by garbage. As the minority it's what we should realistically expect though![]()
For most beginner - hard tracks I can tell almost instantly by watching the top replay whether the creator has designed the track with good flow. If this is the case it usually takes me 20 - 30 mins to get a run that flows the way the creator intended. After this point I will probably not play that track again unless it really is something special or I really want to contend for a top spot on the leaderboard. Ninja tracks, on the other hand I seem to enjoy replaying over and over just for fun without even really trying to beat my score. For me, this probably has something to do with the fact that I didn't play that many ninjas in HD and for the moment I'm really not that interested in camping a track for 2 hours trying to beat my time by half a second to move from 5th to 1st on a custom track leaderboard.
For the majority of players though I think that most don't have the skill level to be able to get a good speedrun through the entire track that matches the way the creator intended. This can be frustrating and probably leads to a lot of people not rating good quality tracks highly. There is undoubtedly a massive skill difference between the top 0.1 percent and the rest which causes a lot of these problems.
To me, replay value is all in the competition. Having that one guy pushing you to make the perfect run is what keeps me coming back.
Ninjas are a bit different- i keep playing them until i get the faults down to a respectable amount- preferredly 0, but 1 fault aint too bad on level2-3 ninjas. This is only what ive cone to expect from myself, no disrespect intended.
This can be true, but sometimes I improve my run simply because I know that I can.Originally Posted by Amplitude
I show my thanks for people making solid tracks, by trying to get a run better than they intended. I bet it's a good feeling knowing somebody took the time to get a solid run on your track.
I sometimes go into the new section to get good runs on "less polished" tracks, as well.
But I really hope nobody makes tracks for the purpose of publicity, and instead enjoy creating tracks.
