I know, it's an obscure sport... but I'm into it! I know Murdoc used to be REALLY into it. Anyone else?
For those who don't know what it is, this video is one of my favorites:
I'm not that great myself... my average score on most courses is usually around +12. My best score is +6, which I've shot twice at the Truckee River Course and once at the Squaw Valley course up here in Tahoe.
I thought it would be fun to have a thread here in Off-Topic for us to share some of our experiences, so I'll start!
Truckee River is one of the easier courses around here, and I'm pretty sure I'll beat my best of +6 on it pretty soon. The Squaw Valley course however is much harder. My best score on it up until my last round was +11. Then out of nowhere I had an awesome round and got +6! Hole 18 is a Par 4, and I was already at +7 when I got to it. My first drive was pretty much perfect (for my current skill level anyway), but my second drive went far left... I think I was around 60 feet from the basket still. I was just trying to play it safe and go for an approach shot that guaranteed a par on the hole, and +7 on the course. But somehow I made it from this far away, and ended up getting a Birdie on the hole:
I've been playing on and off for over 5 years, but it was very sporadic in the past... usually less than 10 games per year. Last summer I started playing a bit more than usual, and this year I've really stepped it up. I have an iPhone app that allows me to enter my scores on each course/hole as I play, and export the data to a CSV file, which I can then import into an XLS file to track my stats/progress! I got the app in May of 2011, and I've been keeping track ever since.

Well, I'm bored... so I'm gonna share some more pics...
Here are a couple of great drives I had on Par 3 holes that resulted in easy birdies:
And here are some more difficult putts I made:
I'm particularly proud of that last one as I had to throw the disc slightly anhyzer to avoid the small tree. Hyzer and anhyzer throws explained.
Finally, this wasn't a particularly good drive, but I threw a bit too high, and the ground was so soft it resulted in this:

I got a hole in one on a par 3 at a course in Raleigh NC. It was beautiful. Complete luck. I've only played disc twice. I was on my college's ultimate frisbee team tho. We got creamed by UNC but we beat USouthCarolina Gamecocks.
^^
Nice! I've also only had one ace myself, and it was shortly after I got into the sport... many years ago. It was on hole 6 at the Lake Casitas course in Southern California, also a par 3. My disc skipped off a dirt path maybe 30-40 feet from the basket and went in. Total luck. I was so new at the sport back then that I was happy with anything better than a double bogey... lol.
It's great to see others here interested in the sport of Disc Golf.
I first leaned to play at Walter Frederick Morrison Disc Golf Course.
Named after the inventor of the frisbee.
I haven't played in a few years, though I will return to this place.
A good course in my opinion.
Just beat my record on the Truckee River course... +5! Four bogeys, one double bogey, one birdie, and a bunch of pars. Many of the baskets were in their hardest positions, so I'm pretty confident I can par this course if and when they get moved back to easier positions.![]()
I was jogging around a field/foresty area near my town, and theres this disc golf course, I was like "Thats cool"
I kept jogging on and all of the sudden I get a moment when "Mah spidey sense be tingling!"
I crouch/dock and dodge a disc flying like a rocket, sweeping overhead. Was like "Fk yeah!"![]()
Havent really tried the sport, this is my only close instance with it.![]()

Haha, that's awesome! If there's a course so near you, you should give it a try! It's really a fun sport. A mix of skill, strategy, and focus... just like Trials!![]()
