Just curious how most people gave out ratings. It's pretty tough to judge it correctly, as it's all subjective. For me it's:
1 star- Your parents should be ashamed of you for creating this monstrosity. I only rated it 1 star because there was no "Nuke it from orbit" option. basically your track consists of two or more of the below:
-Pointless overuse of effects (You can't cover up your bad track by trying to blind the player with fire so they can't see it)
-Horrible camera angles
-Driving randomly and aimlessly throught the default track editor world, over near vertical hills that completely kill flow.
-Afterburners (There are exceptions to this rule, so don't let me put you off if you think afterburners work well with the track).
-Obsticals that completely kill flow (Has to be pretty bad, for instance driving down a long hill then smashing into a wall)
-Fluctuating gravity/Random physics forces.
Basically if you got one star, your track looks like a 4 year old made it (No offense if there's some good 4 year old track creators on here, you guys are awesome)
The only logical explanation is you were trolling track central, or were heavily intoxicated when making it. (Possibly both)
2 star- You at least spent time putting down your own obsticals , and your track it least looks like some amount of coherent thought into it. Basically as long as you had neurons in your brain and spent a fair amount of time on your track, you'll at least get a two star. Track consists of:
-Boring driving line (e.g long empty areas, pointless huge ramps, pointless loops)
-Bad scenery (e.g floating objects (again, there are exceptions, see "Heaven" for example))
-Really inconsistent difficulty (As in, at one point you're flying over massive ramps with ease, the next you're climbing a near verticle incline)
-Bad flow (Having to stop without warning is a good example)
3 star- The track is average. It's above the standard of a two star track, but below the standard of the tracks shipped in the game by Redlynx. Basically, it's not bad, but it's not good. Probably wouldn't be playing it again (Not because it was bad, it just didn't grab my attention).
4 star- The track has a good line, flow scenery and consistency. It's more or less of the same standard as the tracks shipped with the game. May play it again if it's eye catching and memorable.
5 star- The track is near flawless, even better than the ones shipped with the game. I stand in awe of your editor godliness. Go have a cookie, you've earned it. Definatly play again.
I would include the "zero" star rating, but I'm not sure if that actually counts as a rating at all.![]()
It would be nice if we're all on the same page, so we can at least try to give ratings some sort of meaning, so feel free to describe how you rate tracks.![]()
1* - Shouldnt be uploaded as its awful.
2* - Something showed considerable effort but it was still awful.
3* - It was generally average but did function.
4* - Its good, but either something was wrong or it wasnt really my preferred style.
5* - Everything was well done and I really liked it.
5 if i really enjoy it and intend to play it a fair few times.
4 if it's clearly a good track but not my cup of tea.
i don't really mark things 3 or 2. it's either 1,4 or 5.
so i give tracks 1 if they are golf/baseball mini games which involve the bike, or if they are tracks i just don't like for any reason at all. sparse background (ie no effort), poor flow, boring, slowdown, etc etc.
Pretty much spot on the same for me tooOriginally Posted by Barrybarfly
I will add that only 4 star tracks upwards (with a few 3 star exceptions) are tracks i keep to play again, untill storage is a problem that is lol
Im a fussy bastard ill never give a track 5* if it has screen tear. Im not too fussed about scenery though. Generally i take the view that if the track made me want to play it again...and some effort has gone into the track as a whole...ill give it a 5* unless it has lag or screen tear in which case its a 4*.
Anything with floating staircases or **** like that gets a 1* rating. Some people think my view on screen tearing is harsh and i can understand why....but its not in the career tracks and they have some extremely complex builds..so imo there is no need for it to be in tracks we build either. I also understand many builders have a vision and leave screen tear in the track as a concious decision which i respect...so im not bashing them just talking about my personal rating habits![]()
I 100% agree with your view on screen tear or lag. If your track has these issues, it IS NOT READY for release. I have seen some unbelievably detailed and busy tracks that run smoothly, there is no excuse to have it in your track.Originally Posted by emcee
For some reason I am really polarized when I rate them, I give out more 1's and 5's than anything. I either love it or hate it.
I had a section of slowdown for about 1sec on my latest track but just could not figure out how to get rid of it and would have lost too much detail if I had simply removed objects until it went. So I had to put it out with the small slowdown issue. But I hate it as well. I can deal with a small amout once in a track, but anymore than that and its just horrible.
0* - The driving line is just a big load of toss and goes all over the place ... trying to remeber where 25 turns are is a random mess, anyone can do that.
1* - If i can finish the track but have had the desirable thought of punching the creator in the face repetitively, i.e the track is playable(just) but not fun, they obviously uploaded it just to get one of the achivements(does not apply for extreme or ninja difficulty)
2* - The track is playable, but there is an over emphasis on effects and not on the actual driving experience, also if the creator hasnt even bothered to put a reasonable time in themselves, then why i should i waste my time too.
3* - The track is fun to play, but the user has not taken the time to "finish" the track off (if youve spent half a day creating a track, y not spend another hour or two placing supports and adding scenery?)
4* - The track is fun to play, it looks good, the creator has set a time that i have got the urge to beat.
5* - Has all the 4* requirements, but also gives you the "Wow" factor whilst playing. Also if im going to advise my friends to give it a go, its gotta be special!![]()
