Im building a track built around a sand storm and there are 2 things i would like to ask.
1. Is it possible to move the cloud.objects using an OPE so as to create the effect of a moving sandstorm?
2 how do i create the flashing light to replicate lightning?
Thanks for any help you can offer
1 Havent tried but cant see it being any different than the water planes and they move fine
2 I was playing with the large electricity arcs turning them on for a few ticks before turning it off then turning on one slightly lower for a few ticks then turn it off etc until you reach desired "target" (this is for the actual lightning if any) aswell as briefly changing the sky colours to all white/light blue VERY briefly for the flash effect to accomnpany it followed by rocks crumbling and electricity sounds with lowered pitch shortly after to replicate the echo
I had my trigger send the impulse thru a splitter then 2 delays which had a difference of 1 tick. They activate the light event for the three point lights set to a pretty high luminosity, that were strategically placed to white out the screen.
Hope that's what you were looking for.
It would awesome to see a google doc tutorial for this in the tut thread...Originally Posted by oXCuBXo

Clouds, as I understand, will not move with a OPE because the visible portion of the cloud is actually a particle coming from an emitter. Using an OPE will move the emitter, but the long life of the particle means that there aren't many clouds being emitted. You wouldn't notice the movement until the next particle is "born", and by then the rider could have already finished the track.
Lightning is far easier, depending on what effect you are looking for, as you only really need a static light to go from 0 distance and 0 intensity to much higher numbers, and back to 0, in a fairly short order.

*edit* your talking about the range of the light I think, I got ya now I think.
Yeah, I'm currently AFX (Away From Xbox).![]()
Clouds are more complicated than they seem. The "particles" of clouds are only emitted like every 2 minutes, therefore the cloud can only move every 2 minutes. If you wanted to create the illusion of a moving cloud, you would have to place a bunch of clouds next to each other and then activate and de-activate them appropriately to create the effect.
You can make the clouds 'roll' like a mist coming from hills, for example, by using that physics arrow.(sorry.forget true names)..this might be your best bet for wot your trying to achieve..
If there well placed behind your cloud it spreads the cloud on a continuos roll effect.ive tried this on a track, which worked nicely, but deleted by accident..
Ok guys thanks for the input it seems like a headache so ill leave it for now. Thanks to all for giving advice.
