So I've come into a few quid and thinking about a new tv..
Currently have a 42 Samsung 1080p and its fine really..
But I can't get 3D out my head.. but with the choices around and even some not needing glasses is it a good time to buy and be stuck with the tv for next 5 yr ?
Anyone have a 3D tv ?
Is it worth it for gaming ?
Does it improve your skill on say blops ?
What is the minimum size a 3D tv needs to be ?
I would like between a 42 and 46. A 46in just hits where my window starts, so it can't be bigger..
I'm drawn towards Panasonic after a bit of research, for 3D and Samsung still seem to be best for 2D..
I have a great budget so price is not such an issue, a top end 46 top out at around £1500,
My biggest fear is if I buy, will there be a better one, say glasses not needed in 6 months and ill be angry for buying now ?
Plasma seems to be better for gaming and lcd for movies..
I want it purely for the future of 3D gaming....
Any help, advice or info on your 3D tv ( rite or wrong choice ) would be great..
As its quite difficult to find listings of any new tvs coming out soon for this summer or even winter range .
With the different ways that 3D currently works I would put off buying a 3DTV for now. Wait for a unified standard.
I do not like 3D gaming, my dominant eye will focus on the picture fine, but my other eye goes in and out of focus with most 3D tech causing massive headaches after 30-45 minutes.
I work in 3D, and this kind of tech is pretty close to me.
Shifty makes a good argument, but I feel the current gen standard is present in polarized non-powered glasses.
If I'm right, LG was the first on the market with regular polarized glasses not requiring batteries or to be recharged.
We left the ones that came with it in the box, and have just been using glasses from the theaters we brought home, from back in the day before they started asking for them back.
We have a 120 Hz, but if you want better, go for the 240 Hz.
As far as auto-stereoscopic, glasses free 3D is concerned, I don't see that happening on TV's anytime soon. If you've ever seen one of those screens (like on a Nintendo 3DS or a Fuji W3), you'll notice that it is intended for one person looking straight at it. Side stepping causes viewing problems. This "digital lenticular" technology seems far fetched on a big screen with support for multiple people viewing from different angles.
I actually haven't tried current gen 3D gaming, as the only 3D supported game I have is Crysis 2, and it's collecting dust right now. Though, about 15 years ago, I played Descent (or Descent 2) on my computer in 3D with a flicker headset and it was stunningly awesome! Also I am very much looking forward to playing Assassins Creed III in 3D (assuming it supports it).
Hope any of that helps, here is a look at the future, but I believe this tech is a little more distant, maybe 5 years (just guessing).
Very helpful.. thanx.
It seems the battle is far from won, as to which is best or standard.. like blueray and hd, blueray won.
I guess I should hold back for a while to see how it works out, cause I really don't want to spend big money on something that will be obsolete in 24 month say ?
And talking to the people in the store is useless cause they just say what u want to hear..
Thanx again and that holographic stuff is enough to wait a while,
Saying that if I don't buy one in the next few weeks ill end up just *****ing the money on crap as the weeks go by..
